Minimum Line Speed for 3D Streaming?

Ok, so I've just upgraded my TV to a 3D one (yes, I know - very late to join the party, but these things are costly), and now I see that Netflix has a 3D section (which I could have sworn was not available with my old TV).

Anyhoo, I tried to stream a 3D movie, and watched 3 seconds of awesomeness before Netflix complained that my connection was too slow.

At the moment, I have a 4Mb/s uncapped account Mweb.
Thankfully, at the start of next month I'll have a 10Mb Afrihost uncapped account.

However, does anyone know what the minimum speed is for 3D streaming, and approximately what the constant transfer rate is?
I'm really hoping my 10Mb line will be able to handle it, although I'm not sure.

Anyone?

Hehe, thanks Wacky!

Actually didn't Google... I trust the folks here - no lie!
I wonder if I can swing it with my 10Mb.... wish me luck!

Thanks again ;)

No problem :D

I hope you can swing it. Let me know how it goes!

Oh well, all will be revealed in two weeks - can't wait!

Will be nice to enjoy almost close to line speeds again :)
I'll definitely let you know!

Gents,

Bad news, I upgraded to Afrihost 10Mb uncapped from my Mweb 4Mb, unfortunately Netflix still complained about the lack of bandwidth.
Oh well, I tried!

Oh and btw, the 3D option only comes up when I use my US Playstation Network account login. Other than that (when I use my SA PSN login), I don't see the 3D option.

Did Netflix complain with both 3D and non 3D?
Running a 6mbps uncapped OpenWeb here and we manage 2 simultaneous streams.

Nah Mike, just the 3D stream.
Other than that, I manage a single 720p stream easily.
I'm trying to make the best use out of my new toy :) 3D is still a novelty to me!

I haven't tried two streams yet, however, I was able to stream while downloading via Newsgroups :)

Okay cool. Was just making sure you could do non 3D streams else there is a problem.

Get yourself a good firewall setup with good QoS. I leave my NZB downloads running, kids on YouTube, and both myself and my son jam online. A good QoS setup will ensure your streams and gaming (if you game) won't suffer.

I can watch my NZB stuff hogging the line at just over 620KB/s download speed. Then a Netflix stream is fired up and the NZB drops to accommodate around 250KB/s from Netflix/Hulu+.
While the streaming and downloading is going on, we jam online with no lag.
Order of priority is Gaming protocols, then media devices, then everything else.
Works really well if you have a busy internet house.

Can you believe I have a [Linksys] Cisco that doesn't do QoS! lol
Just checked before replying.
Yeah, but for now it's just myself and the wife. My daughter doesn't know what a computer is yet :). She's still young, so all good there.
But yeah, hopefully when my home network gets as busy as yours, we'd all be on FTTH so they'll be no need for QoS? :)

I can dream, can't I?
Thanks for the helpful tips though Mike!

Shreez/Mike, what are you setups. Samsung TV with built in firmware?

I have 10Mbps line and cannot get more than 384p on anything, Laptop, Mac, iPhone, WDTV but can download or stream Youtube at 800kB/s or upwards.

Tried some many things and still no luck, different service providers, with or without router, Unotelly, Tunelr, other DNS stuff.

Howzit Legosa.

I'm actually making use of my PS3 as my streaming client.
I do have a Samsung smart TV, and heard talks of Netflix and Hulu having apps on their, but never found anything.

I've also got a 10MB Afrihost account (mind with my Mweb 4Mb I could also manage) and I manage 720p quite easily.
I'm using UnoTelly.
I've heard a lot of peeps here praising the Netflix playback on the WDTV. Have you tried using this for streaming Netflix or Hulu?

I'm running at 8 Meg.
What I find is my samsung tv streams youtube better than my pc.
The samsung 3d app demo thing that streams does a brilliant job of getting 3D HD streams from wherever it gets it.
Using Netflix on the TV it starts at lile 480p and then after a minute seems to be about 720p but its not nearly as good as the samsung streamer, I've heard the PS3 netflix app does a better job but I haven't got netflix on my ps3.

It seems to be more dependant on what program you use on what device that affects the quality and not the just the bandwidth you have.

I've never fired up YouTube from my TV yet, something to try :)

@ bboy, are streaming Netflix from your TV then? I'm still finding my way around the TV, only have it for 2.5 weeks, so I must be doing something wrong or looking in the wrong place.
I've checked under "Samsung apps" but could not find anything there.
I'm quite happy with my PS3 stream though. I've heard the XBOX does a really $hitty job of it.

with the samsung tv you have to enter some special code on the remote which lets you choose a different region for your tv then you can install netflix

Any luck I can get a quick step by step guide from you?
Thanks!

Streaming 3D doesn't work for me either on 10Mbit, even with capped IS and SAIX accounts.

Don't waste your time downloading Full-SBS (3840x1920) movies either. The PS3 (and pretty much everything except a PC) won't handle the resolution so you'll have to scale it down anyway to get it to play.

Damn!
So you reckon it's more a matter of GFX raw processing power as opposed to bandwidth availability?
