Minimum Line Speed for 3D Streaming?

Damn!
So you reckon it's more a matter of GFX raw processing power as opposed to bandwidth availability?

I'm sure it would work if we had a local server. The problem is getting enough speed over the distances involved. Try a speed test to Boston or New York and compare it to your local results.

Edit: The resolution thing is a seperate issue to the streaming, I figured you'd want to download something since streaming doesn't work.

Streaming Netflix, the whole movie it jumps between 288p and 384p, in credits it goes to 720P. Just need to spend some hours playing around and perhaps pulling a cable to it as I currently use WIFI.

Come to the conclusion that I think I have a dud WDTV. No matter what I try, it streams on poor quality. Going to test at a friends house, 4Mbps line with his WDTV and mine and see if there is a difference.

Cool... Hope you come to some sort of a conclusion and resolution.
Issues like this are the only downfall of switching from DSTV, but saving R500 a month surely helps a bit ;)

Good luck!

You guys must remember something, if your other protocols such as HTTP and p2p work perfectly then it cannot be your setup (as a way of ruling it out) but rather it can be your service provider.

In terms of Afrihost, there is dynamic shaping that occurs that will give you unshaped bandwidth when the network is quiet but will shape alot more at busy times. They now have this info on shaping in the control panel i believe.

I would also spend time contacting the reps on here who will do things to better troubleshoot if it is indeed an issue on their side. It just requires some time and patience.

We haven't seen this but what if providers did custom profiles on users with a single adsl data account. Gamer A and SeriesKing B get their accounts shaped according to what they do (sort of like the QoS from Mike above) :).

These networks are tweaked alot of the time and sometimes it breaks and alot of people don't come out and tell them so they suffer but the provider still gets your money.

If on Afrihost, get into contact with AfriMan and let him troubleshoot for you. :)

@shreez, the netflix 3D page says
Please note that 3D streaming requires an Internet connection speed of at least 6Mb/s, while 12Mb/s will deliver our highest 3D video quality.

link here The link above shows 3D needs 12Mb/s which they failed to show that you don't need at minimum a 12Mb/s connection :p

Correct me if i am wrong but you should be seeing 3D since 12Mb/s is not the minimum ;-)

Edit: the devices that will work (sadly PC support only works on their Windows 8 app but others on Win8 need to confirm :/)

Netflix now offers 3D streaming for select titles in the United States with the following devices:

Sony PlayStation 3 (connected TV must support 3D)
LG TV Series: LM6200, LM6400, LM6600, LM6650, LM6700, LM7600, LS5700, LS5750, PM4700, PM6700, PM6900, PM9700
Additional device support coming soon!

Thanks Yuu, you might have missed it but Wacky pointed out the 12Mb/s outline.
I also did then click on their link which, as you pointed out defines 12Mb/s as ideal, and not a minimum. However, even with this in play and my 10Mb/s link, I didn't smell 3D besides the 5 seconds of awesomeness before the dialogue pops up.

I know damn well it's not my setup. In theory it should work...
I'm running on a PS3 with my 3D TV connected just as Netflix expects it.

Thing is... Mweb dropped my line speed to 4Mb, and I only found this out by checking on www.telkom.co.za/checkadsl.
I called them, and they apparently upped it to 10Mb again, but I've just checked again, and it's still 4Mb. It could be why I have not seen any real speed difference since switching to Afrihost. My speed test gets me around 8Mb, but I consider those tests useless as they very rarely do match the real end user experience.

Not sure how to get back to 10Mb.... that might be the problem.
Have you managed to ever get this to work?

Ahhh, fail for not reading the entire thread :O.

I don't do any of this at the moment so no, haven't got it to work :).

If you want, ask users who are using a PS3 and 3DTV to post their results. An official feedback thread should hopefully yield results. Posting in the TV section though.

I will see if i can find some other streaming 3D sites for you to test and edit this post with links if any found. Others are welcome to find and post them. :)

Hahaha - no worries man! :D

That would be awesome, thanks Yuu. Would love to know if anyone's managed to get it working. I just wanna get the best out of my new toy ;)
