Mining houses suspend operations

It'll dampen all investment big time. Any chance of them using generators or is it just too expensive?

I'm sure there are feasible ways in which the mines could use a combination of solar, generators, Eskom etc.

If this was made critical by Eskom decades ago, I'm sure the mines could have planned for it. I doubt though Eskom and even the mines themselves could have predicted the unprecedented, rapid growth like we see in Eastern Bushveld Platinum etc.

Whatever they do it'll take a while to implement anyway, they'll all suffer big losses. Has there been a lot of growth in mining?

platinum, coal and iron ore continue to do well on the physical mining front

Yeah, there's been lots of expansion programs in SA as "milomak" puts it.

Although some gold mines are near end of their life, there's still major capital programme to deepen them further.

Eastern Limb of our Platinum Complex is full of new mines and new processing plant(s).

Coal is also expanding as mines rush for more exports.

Iron-ore and Manganese is also expanding.

Didn't realise there'd been so much expansion. Hopefully with the high commodities prices they'll still be profitable using generators and whatever else they need to.
