Home Affairs extends operating hours

Home Affairs Minister, Dr Aaron Motsoaledi, has approved a temporary extension of operating times by two and a half hours at front offices from 08:00 to 17:30 starting from today.

This is to enable the department to deal with the high demand for services at Home Affairs offices.

Then the biggest workforce in SA (aka job's for buddies and ANC voters run) would not be needed. Oops.
Most people don't have access to online services and their needs are complicated enough that they'd still need HA. It is a good idea to really have online services so that people who don't need to stand in lines all day don't do it. Government will not cut jobs regardless, they'd keep the same staff complement if they had to serve only one person.

This department can be open for 24 hours, but you get there any later than 10am they will tell you the system is offline. And yes, the system is online but the lazy clowns use that tactic for you to get irritated to the point that you have to bribe to get them to do the basic finger lifting to keyboard.

I agree. We need self service etc. By the same breath, people would realise the government work force is way bloated.. And like you say.. nothing will happen.

Family member went to HA after completing passport application online. Told to wait in the same line as those who couldn't as it would be unfair to the one who didn't have internet access to let my family skip the queue and go straight to biometrics.

Everyone at HA that contributes to this type of BS should strongly consider suck starting a pistol.

Extended operating hours...good idea.

Better idea: how about opening earlier, seeing as most people start queuing very early in the morning.

It's interesting that they are working one week in one week out and on full salary all that time. Nice job, if you can get it.

But now how are the Q4U scalpers gonna make a living?

Forced to work extra hours is going to make them even less productive (if that is even possible).

Sjo! The difference an election makes to ANC energy & ingenuity..

Why suck k@k service any other time?

Quick improvement for the votas ne, will soon collapse back to normal after.

Can anyone translate?

If I understand this correctly - 9AM to 11AM, tea break for 2 hours, 1PM to 2PM and then close for the day to do the admin tasks.

No, you have this all wrong..

9 - 9:30, then tea until 10. 10 - 10:30, then tea until 11. 11-12, then 12 - 2 for lunch. 2 - 2:30, then tea until 3, then go home.
