Despite strong environmental objections and an ongoing inquiry by the South African Human Rights Commission, Sonjica has awarded provisional mining rights to Mineral Resource Commodities and its South African subsidiary, Transworld Energy and Minerals (TEM).

I doubt Sonjica would be willing to pay the price personally. When the sht hits the fan and the area is totally scrwd she's going to be blaming the "rich white australians" who took advantage of the perperually disadvantaged locals

One might wonder how such blatant racism is allowed at government level. I wonder if the time when the ANC feels it no longer needs to hide its true colors is fast approaching.

Spoor, who could not be contacted for comment, is widely respected as a fighter for human rights and in the 1980s helped the National Union of Mineworkers develop into a force to be reckoned with by the then apartheid government.

This ignorance and arrogance angers me. Its similar to that Kimberly Mayor who said:

I strongly believe the minister has been bought off by the mining company. On the very next page of the Sunday Tribune was a story about the community who are protesting the mining. They recognise that in the long term its going to be disastrous for both the Wild Coast and for them. Furthermore all the profits are going to end up in Australian hands (or why would they bother). Just because their country is a worthless wasteland doesn't mean they have to come over and ruin ours. And the minister is just a racist sellout (but mostly a sellout using any means necessary to seal the deal).
 
its stupidity like this that makes me think leaving this country for a while makes sense and comming back in a decade or two when younger educated black leaders are in power, because the current bunch are only in it for themselves and they are totaly stuck in the past.

Funny that when Carte Blanche covered this story, all but one of the local black people interviewed were against the idea of mining for the simple reason that they'd be forced from their land. The principle at a school there was the only one in favour of it going ahead as he, naively in my opinion, believes it will provide sustainable job creation for the locals. The worst part is that the area's tourist industry was said to have collapsed due partly to lack of funding as clearly expressed by a white guy involved with local ecology (could be the person refered to in this article) as well as more of the locals previously employed in that sector.

Sonjica has clearly packed her bags and is waiting on the platform for the Gravy Express. And if this goes ahead and the locals are exploited as they will be, we can all rest assured that once the area has become a wasteland, whitey (that's us South Africans, not the Auzzies) WILL be blamed in some way or other.

Have you had a look at the future leaders of this country? Look at the ANCYL. We are in for worse times than now. That is for sure.

In a decade or two there still won't be educated black leaders in this country. How long has the rest of black africa had without white people, and still they can't manage to get it right. Look at Kenya and Nigeria. Whites have left decades ago, and still these countries are getting worse daily.
 
That is an undeniable fact. However, we all have a choice I suppose, do we stay here and enjoy some of what is still left, things such as the climate and some sense of freedom and space, or do we all pack it in for another country. That is a decision we all independently have to make.

I remain here because, first of all I don't want to be called a loser or a coward and run away from my problems like my brother did. Second of all I can still earn a decent living here in engineering. If that changes, then of course, I may, or may not move. Third of all even though I am not at all happy about what this government is doing to this country I do, deep down feel some sort of, miniscule patriotism for my motherland.

I agree, the whole of Africa is a mess. Why should we be any different. Off Topic: I went to my doc yesterday and you cannot believe how many specialists have left the country. Really scary.

I don't know hey, as I said in another thread I think between now and the 2009 elections we are seeing fireworks in terms of slaughtering of state assets, bribery and sticking hands deep into provincial/ministerial pockets.
The current crowd knows that the sound of Zuma's boot up their backsides come June 2009 will be so loud, that their grandchildren will still hear it 10 years from now, so now it's time to make sure that the nest is full before the long hard winter sets in.

There are a lot of rumblings from the Zuma camp about prosecuting the people that are currently engorging themselves once they take over, and this might well happen as a means of revenge. Problem is the crowd that will take over then will have been ravaged by years of famine and oppression from the Mbeki crowd, so they will have to feed themselves as well.

The only thing this "minister" is doing is fuelling hatred towards whites. Black communist followers will NOT ignore this. They will thrive on such hateful comments.

Hopefully soon there'll be a news headline reading "Non-ANC-aligned counter-revolutionaries slam divisive minister".

She's a typical politician, its just easier to blame someone else like "the whites", who seem to be the ANC's target for everything.

Do rich blacks lack the ability to enjoy it?
