Johannesburg - The Minister of Minerals and Energy, Ms Buyelwa Sonjica, says she is concerned about the steep petrol and diesel price increases.

The Department of Minerals and Energy announced on Friday that the price of petrol will go up by 61c/L next Wednesday to a record 825c/l.

"These increases will affect all South Africans either directly or indirectly, and owing to the fact that it is largely external factors (rand depreciation and international product price changes) which determine these increases, I would like to call on the public to start using their fuel in a more efficient manner and curb the wasteful use of this resource," Sonjica said.

Why does government talk down to its citizens? It is like we are a bunch of kids that have to be told what to do because of our infantile behaviour.

Government needs to learn how to govern and stop telling people what to do. The citizens of SA have a clue, we do our jobs, we do them well and we keep this country going despite not because of government.

Government needs to "catch a wake up" they need to figure how to improve our road problems (non-working robots, unsynchronized traffic lights, traffic jams, no public transport, lack of law enforcement etc).

If she is so concerned she should reduce the taxes on fuel
 
What is the definition of 'Wasting Fuel' ?

Using your Generator?
Driving to work?


I just dont understand... Manuel increased the price of petrol in his last budget! If they cared about the price, he would have changed the Tax structure for petrol.

Fuel price is determined internationally.

Taxes are determined by government.

Budget speech is approved by cabinet before Trevor makes it.

She should have raised her concern there.

By driving fuel-guzzlers they can't just turn around and tell us to use less - they must set an example first.
 
All these ministers always make these suggestions. Its like the pot calling the kettle black, You can't expect me to believe THEY inconvenience themselves in the slightest with this rubbish. They dont conserve their electricity and fuel, they dont drive to work with 4 other people. Hell, they dont even know the traffic problems we experience everyday, because they get to drive everyone else off the road with their police escorts and black 4X4's. How do they expect to understand the peoples problems, if they are not willing to experience them ffs? I agree with the OP

No, but driving a big 4.2 V8 double cab bakkie/SUV to work in peek hour traffic every weekday is insane...:eek:

The Minister conveniently forgot about the Eskom fiasco that did great damage to the rand and secondly the fuel levy increases in the budget.

Government through it's own incompetence is blaming the public, to cover-up it's problems.
It's freaking ludicrous.

I do agree there... BUT if you drive a 4.2Ltr Jeep and take 3 other people to work in the morning too... THAT is a responsible act :D

Sometimes they dont use cars.

They use helicopters
