Decided to call sanral etoll call center to get outstanding amounts.
Because of the timeline (december to now), you end up having an amount owing to VPC (days>7) and to ETC (days<=7). You also have to speak to different agents for each amount.

VPC agents are unable to tell me anything about transactions/dates/times, they can only provide the amount. If I want more details, I have to use the website.

Vehicle 1: passed 8 gantries in december
If I pay at etoll outlet: R274.59
If I pay via eft: R170.85

Vehicle 2: passed 2 gantries on 8 feb *corrected the date
ETC - cant find any transactions/amounts
VPC - cant find any transactions/amounts

ETC agent says the VPC call center will be able to help me while the VPC agent tells me that the ETC call center will be able to help me.

So who can solve the mystery of the missing etoll transactions?

Sounds like a complete bolls-up to me.

And someone lied in parliament by saying that this was all working.

Haven't been under a tollgate yet, and have no intention of ever doing so.

Must say, am learning a lot more about the Joburg countryside.

The transactions will only go across to the VPC after 7 days. It is possible for there to be a delay between going under the gantry and the ETC getting the transactions. From what I understand, the gantries have a whole bunch of hardware and it's possible for them to buffer the transactions for a bit depending on load and other factors. 3 days would be about the limit though. It's also possible that they are undergoing some sort of secondary verification because of the image quality for number plate recognition.

oops, the correct date for vehicle 2 is 8 Feb.
So its over 7 days and both VPC and ETC cant find the transactions.

Have you looked at the VPC web site? The transactions might be there but may not have been rolled up into an invoice. There is a chance that the quality of the image was not the best so the transactions would need to be verified to confirm that the recognized registration number is correct.

You shouldn't really be dealing with ETC at all. ETC is just the service provider. The options are Sanral for first seven days and then VPC (a division of SANRAL). ETC have no right to directly contract with you - they do it in SANRAL's name.

I havent used the VPC website as I dont intend on registering formally with any company/website related to etolls.

When you call the sanral callcenter for etolls, its ETC callcenter staff that handle your queries for transactions under 7 days.
Thats what they told me on the call.

Because they outsource it to ETC, but its still "Sanral" you are dealing with.

Not possible if you are not registered !

Why do you want to pay...

Im not paying just yet. I wanted to find out what im owing as I have not received any communication from sanral.
Also, my december transactions should be over 60 days now and im not sure whats really going on.

Im waiting for the first court case to take place, then I will either pay/not pay depending on the outcome.

I think that is what the majority of people is doing.
