Mixed response to DStv deaf plan

The sad things is that people with disabilities are always going to be 2nd class citizens in SA.

With the current race obsession AA will always beat EE. It will always be easier to accomodate any of the other groups the deaf are actually the most excluded from society of all the disability groupings.

We live in anacronym hell ..............

Sad state of affairs. I hate subtitles as a hearing abled person. It destroys the enjoyment value in shows, but if it is a click on or off type of services I am all for it. The tech is there, it should be free.

I'm hard of hearing since birth, and is battling to find other work... :(

AA surely is teh suxxor... :(

Well at least here on MyADSL everyone with fingers can speak and be heard.

Ons almal praat vinger taal ......... nie net met taxi bestuurders nie.

I nearly crapped myself the other day as I could only hear loads of interference from my last working ear. The other one is only there to ensure that my sunglasses stay on straight.

Was a scary thought thinking that I would have to learn a new language just to be able to communicate.

I don't mean to be mean, but aren't they being a little ungrateful? Sure, it is only reaching the rich, but at least Multichoice is taking initiative!

I love the idea of permanent subtitles!

The crappy actors that forget to open their mouthes when they speak coupled with my music blaring in the background usually prevents me from hearing what the heck they're saying. And don't get me started on incomprehensible accents! The subtitles are always on when I watch a DVD, I was just waiting for them to bring it to TV as well.

I welcome the idea!

What about the "rich" deaf people? Surely if there is demand for this service in the subscriber base, Multichoice would be obliged to provide such a service.

I agree that a move like this could set the standard and future providers will include this service in their packages as well.
