The problem with appointing the Public Protector is that the Public doesn't have enough say. Asking is to comment on a shortlist of 50 candidates is not enough, we should be allowed to comment on the top 5

Should be able to veto the choice when blatantly inappropriate like the new PP, surely the public's watcher should not be nominated by the governing (used in the loosest possible way) party.

Maybe a Public Protector council with 9 members, renewed by 3 every 3 years could work better with one appointed by the judicial, one by the government and one by Parliament.

Like this it's less linked to immediate politics.

Something like that:

Nine members who serve non-renewable terms of nine years, one third of whom are appointed every three years, three each by the president of the Republic, the president of the National Assembly, and the president of the Senate.The president of the Council is selected by the president of the Republic.
