MMORPGs

And Darric, if you want 24/7 connectivity without a cap and wicked ping times overseas, get a 64k diginet line

Twice as much as 512k MyWireless, but I'm seriously considering that above anything else... well, let's see iBurst... that sounds promising

Help save the bandwidth. Decent download speeds for TheRodent! Stop downloading now!!!

Thank you everyone for your replies! I'm still keen to here more of your experiences.

I will definitely look into ISDN. I think moving from the crummy 24/7 connection here at residence to a on and off one will be a difficult but worthwhile change. Too many hours are wasted away procrastinating on the net.

Be keen to see you in WoW KemoSabi. ;p
And I will look into diginet noone.

Again thanks.

Rath, still having cr@p with bad lag? Maybe I was just lucky, but before last week Wednesday I had VERY little lag on CoH - nothing noticable - but since 28/07 it's been bad.

I'll check it out again tonite and give some feedback, but I didn't have any problems with it 'till the mentioned day. Nikla is still playing, and there are no problems there.

My lag has been ok since the 2-week episode. Had a little rubberbanding last night, but nothing serious. Seems to be worst in the early evenings.

Talking MMO's and SA players:

A few of my friends and I are currently playing CoH, it's pretty good fun. But, we've been watching WoW for a couple years now, so we'll probably be heading over there when the time comes - it seems to be shaping into a pretty good game. There'll be about 7-10 of us initially, all SA players.

Maybe we should look into forming a larger SA guild?

Well i have played Project Entropia with Mywireless and it performed on par with adsl international. Locally i play, not a MMORPG but a FPS called Americas Army. The ping equals a 56k.

groenie: I applied for a account for project entropia about 2 months back. No answer!
Any help you can offer?

I didn't have any problems. They sent my confirmation email within a couple of hours. Did you give them your Sentech email address when applying? They probably lost the mail [;)]. The Mindark people are very friendly, maybe you should email and ask them what happened. I've had very good service from them - not like some other companies we know...

Hello

I like to watch video streams of men in Duitcheland making love. I play games while I watch the men, but I don't
want to talk about those games.
What I is wanting to say is

Mywireless is very bad for this streaming of big sexy men. And now they are even saying that if you are watching the streaming movies then you can be getting banned from Sentech cos u r eating all their bandwidth like 2 cowboys eating pudding.

Seriously, I reckon Iburst is probably going to do well . They've had some amasing examples of exactly what not to do, chances are Sentech will close down when Iburst comes out so no point signing yourself to a contract which is gonna prematurely (like some of dem cowboys) come to an end.

I really hope Sentech doesn't close down, but seriously.. and I mean SERIOUSLY they gotta lot of work to do in order to shape up

PEACE ! :o

I don't have MyWireless but I have played UO for around 4 years now (locally and on Europa) and DAoC since European Beta (erm 3 years now ?).

If you get ISDN and the right ISP you will be doing yourself a huge favour. I connect with Imaginet (dailing into the Grahamestown PoP not the Telkom one) and my ping to Europa is around 210 to 250 (which is very good trust me). Dailed into Telkom on the same line with the same ISDN connection you will ping anywhere from 380/400 to 600 depending on time of day/night. Sure you can only play at nights and weekends, but the hastle free gaming is well worth it.

Cheers

I spend every waking moment in the fervant hope that they will close down MyWireless. Please God I will be a good boy and stop watching those movies and maybe even go to church if only you make them close!! Or if you prefer you can just ask them to cancel my 2 year frikkin contract? Actually maybe I can get Lucifer to take my soul in exchange to cancelling this frikkin contract! Don't really need a soul anyhow. Or at least not nearly as much as I need to be free of this frikkin contract! I promise never to be amongst the first to sign a two year contract with anyone, ever again.

I have absolutely zero confidence in Sentech ever fixing this. Judging by WS comments, Sentech's idea of fixing their service is downgrading the definition of service to match what is provided!! I didn't sign up for a frikkin 128k service to get the equivalent of a 56k analogue service? 256k for ISDN equivalent? Screw you guys, thats just bollocks!!! And screw you WS for saying that this service is inevitable giving the cost of bandwidth. If you can't provide the service why did you frikkin sell it to me along with a frikkin 2 year contract??

95% of users are happy? Happy with what? Having websites take ages to load? Having painstakingly slow downloads? Having no news server? Having mail take forever to download? Having the most unrelaible DNS servers in the world? Having their personal contact information mailed to the world?

But the important thing is that I'm not bitter!!

P.S. How can you tell when Sentech management are lying? ..... Their lips move!

dirk: Very cool, when I was playing UO I was on the Europa shard myself. We may have run into each other at some point. ;P

I will definitely look into ISDN, it seems the most sensible plan at this point.

Hi Darric...

If you have money, go for unshaped ADSL! It will cost you around R1600 per month, give you uber pings and you shall have a 24/7 internet connection.

Dirk is right, choosing the correct ISP makes a big difference with ISDN. I have gone with a UUNET Dial-up for my ISDN as I get sub 300ms pings to many UK and USA gaming servers. Those uber 210ms - 250ms pings to Europe are only to certain servers when you are using Imaginet. Installation for a new ISDN 2A line is around R600. Just be aware that it can take anything between 2 and 6 weeks to get the line installed!!! Try find out where you will be staying and order that line ASAP if you decide to get ISDN.

Dirk:

Try pinging europe.battle.net, you will notice the pings go upto around 330 - 340ms. With my UUnet account, I get slightly better then that.

Cheers,
Syzygy78

Methinks mrbob has a friend called mrkneel.
