Mmusi's DA makeover

Interesting, He is on the right path by being honest and saying what is on his mind even if it means ruffling feathers. Pretending to each other can never lead to anything good.

Change was inevitable, the DA needs to change in order to make a larger impact to gain market share, how this will translate is to be seen with time.

Issues that I do have,

In an interview with the Financial Mail, Maimane says the party is not "deviating" from its liberal stance but will be anchored more in values than in ideology.

"Nobody goes to the ballot box to express an ideological choice ... What I am saying is yes, we are a liberal house, no question about that, but when you get to the door [this time] perhaps you might be greeted with ‘We value fairness, we value freedom, we value opportunity ... ’," he says.

Who is this nobody? Uhm… Ideologies are largely values, believes and attitudes. He is breaking up an ideology into single parts. This, “We value…”, statement is an ideology (or attributes to an ideology to be more precise).

A battle over its ideological orientation has long been simmering in the DA and came to the fore when the DA voted in favour of the Employment Equity Amendment Act in 2013 under former DA parliamentary leader Lindiwe Mazibuko.

So, in other words, the DA had the wrong mindset/ideology and he wants to adapt to a more ‘open’ ideology. Open by means to speak to more prospective voters.

Another part of Maimane’s plan is to diversify the DA, but this does not mean subscribing to a quota system.

"It’s a crucial project that we have to achieve, for the simple reason that I believe that the DA, if it’s going to become an alternative for SA, must represent all South Africans."

This had already been loosely discussed here -> https://mybroadband.co.za/vb/showthread.php/856098-Racial-quotas-Some-questions-for-the-DA

The policy is a quota, though many people wish to shield the DA by changing the term quota to the term target. The way the policy has been described, pretty much summarises a quota system. Governments has spin the two on equality terms, where targets are voluntary and at an organisation’s own discretion and where quotas are mandated by an external body and imposed upon an organisation, silly workaround by words. The DA’s target is a racial representability to be achieved by 2019 and to apply it geographically and demographically, that is a quota.

The above was once opposed by the DA, but I guess that it is long overdue to change.

This is still the unknown,

Maimane is also busy with a DA policy review, particularly around the economy, health, education, housing and land reform.

would love to hear his reviewed policies on these topics.

His recent views on white people... privilege, stoning, ‘dog’ culture… not going into this.

His stance on these issues are informed by DA research. Like your rightly state, there is a bigger market out there, that the DA needs to attract. These issues may seem petty to the old guard, but reverberate with the larger electorate....end of the day the party's future lies with the larger electorate. DA understands were it's growth must come from.
