I just voted with my wallet! I forgot to pay my MNET subs, obviously got disconnected on Friday. Called MonoChoice's customer care, their call handling system sucks! Eventually got told I am being put through to a rep... after pressing ##134#... a very helpful and understanding rep reconnected my MNET, told me it costs R50 for re-connecting! Fine, Saturday I got home, wanting to watch the last of the Sevens, of course I was disconnected again! I tried numerous time to get through to MC call centre, kept getting told I'd have to wait 30mins+. Eventually gave up frustrated, called the CC this morning, was told a system error disconnected me, bull**** I say... so I asked what compensation I would get for time wasted and cell call costs, was told it's not MC's problem... so it's fine to charge me R50 for re-connection, but there's no compensation for them wasting my time and money! So stuff you MC MNET & DSTV... I've cancelled my MonoChoice account and will be giving my money to the opposition!

Thast the problem i was having the last time with DSTV, i even post it on their forum, and i was told that they'll get it fixed. but i really dont care any more. im waiting for top tv to launch their porn channel, and sex will be my new sport

I agree totally. 1 out of 10 call centre agents useful. Counter staff (at least at N1 City Cape Town) absolute w(i)nkers. Went with a friend who has just got a HD-PVR and 1131 receiver and could not get the TV link to work (I was there to convey the technical aspects). Female tech behind the counter connected everything up, aimed the remote at the 1131 and said, "look it works". I explained that the 1131 did work, but not in the bedroom where the TV link was located. She messed about with her computer, got another TV, got another remote and said, "it is fixed now". So I put the TV link in front of the counter, pressed the remote and nothing happened.

Then she went to fetch another tech, they discussed it for 10 mins and took it away. 2 1/2 hours later, brought it all back and said "fixed".

Took it back to site, and of course it did not work, they had lied to me. When I phoned to complain, the lady spoke to tried to imply that I had not been in the office at all, but when I quoted the name of the female tech, the name of her handlanger who came to look and the name of the third tech she went to fetch, said I must bring it back again. I asked if they would pay for the time and travelling expenses, so she said she could not make a decision like that. I asked her to find out about this and call back. 5 days went by and no call, se we phoned her again. She now could not remember anything about it, so I played her recording back to her on the phone. She said I was trying to blackmail her, so I said, no, we are trying to refresh your memory.

Situation still unresolved.

That sounds like an installation issue... I'm sure there is in fact nothing wrong with that decoder. Get an installer to help. I can recommend a good one in your area.

MC approved installer has already been and given up, hence I was asked to assist. He checked/measured the output from the RF out of the HD-PVR. There is supposed to be 8 - 9 VDC to power the TV link, but nothing on this one. However, if you insert a t-piece between the RF out of the 1131 and RF in on the HD-PVR, there is a useable voltage.

Apparently some 2 tuner HD-PVRs do not switch on the DC supply when Xtra-view has been activated, as the older 4 tuner ones do (plus mine here). The firmware for the 2T HD-PVR has subsequently been altered so you can use any RF port to transmit a heartbeat signal for Xtraview purposes, whereas you had to use RF out on one and RF in on the other.

The fact that he has given up, shows that he might not be the best installer. You are not going to resolve this by taking the decoder to MC.

Anyway, my offer stands. Let me know if you want me to give you the number of a good (not necessarily MC approved) installer, in your area.

Parental unit put the dstv on for Nov after almost a year without it, bank went wonky and the debit only cleared 2 thirds of the payment. Yesterday lawyers phone saying we've been handed over for the outstanding R200 ...... no final demand, email or nothing, just had you over 2 days after payment date. What a bunch of lol chops.

Thanks, but it is working now. Old lady is a bit sensitive of "strangers" coming to her house, so her son asked me to help. Installer said he had found "port problems" on one or two new HD-PVRs. And no, he isn't an ex Aerea-Sat installer, but seeing she was so paranoid, he would rather walk away from the job. There was actually a Dual View system in there before, so the installation was really fitting a multiswitcher and the two receivers.

The real pain in the derriere was the nonsense from MC's counter techs

Talk about a thread hi-jack... lol... glad you were able to resolve!

MC in N 1 City told my father that he will have to take both his decoders with him on holiday and not just the primary one!
Bunch of ...........

MC must be investigated by the competition authorities - they do as they like, that happens when there is barriers to entry for competition and when a company has too much control over the market. MC is flooding the market with junk of every possible thing, tie in the little bit that has value and then no-one can then compete.

In which other country in the world does 1 broadcaster have a total monopoly on the vast majority of national sports? Yes in other countries 1 broadcaster may have rights, but they resell the right to broadcast it! But no not in SA! The faster South African's get out of their 'k@k and betaal' apathetic attitude the better!

YOU forgot to pay your subs...roll with the punches.

MightyQuin, yes you're 100% correct, gladly paid the R50 penalty to get reconnected, watched MNET friday night, Saturday afternoon got home to find MNET disconnected again, couldn't watch the Sevens. Waste my money and time trying to get through to call centre to reconnect again. The issue is that they charge R50 to reconnect you, but if they waste your time and money, it's your problem... btw TopTV do not charge a re-connection fee and will be installed on Wednesday! The installer says they are inundated with TopTV install requests. Wonder why?
