Me and my Girlfriend are getting a bit tired of SABC TV 1,2 & 3 and eTV.

WE don't have the bucks for DSTV.

But when we pick up the newspaper, the TV columns carry all the listings for MNet.

What is that? How do we get connected? How much does it cost?

Mnet is what existed before DSTV bru ..... do you really not know that

It runs on a set-up box which decodes encrypted M-Net signal.

Think you get a few Supersport channels...

Well I've been out of the Country.

So, to connect to MNet you buy a subscription to DSTV?

Or not? Can you get MNet without DSTV?

You can no longer subscribe to MNet as a stand-alone product. It's being phased out in mind of the digital migration!

DsTV Premium (R400+) or DsTV Compact (R200) per month are your Multichoice packages.

Or you can buy a Free-To-Air satellite package from independent satellite installers and watch alternative satellite packages. Whatever the dish picks up, you can watch it. Not to say it's any good :D

afaik Multichoice stopped selling the analog decoders, and getting a second-hand decoder on your name is a b*tch. You can probably get a second hand decoder from cashconverters for about R150. The subscription is R260pm which is not bad since most popular series and movies shows first on mnet and then dstv.

Okay.

thanks for that. That was roughly what I was hoping to find out.

Aah, out of the country makes more sense :D

Well, if you can afford it, just get the full DSTV package ...... that compact is really terrible. Check out www.dstv.com for more info ;)

Premium is over R500/month now I'm afraid :(

Find something you waste 500 bucks a month on and rather get DSTV.

I love DSTV and 500 bucks is not that much considering that would only last most drinkers a night, for the whole month you have dstv. So cut down your drinking or spending to accommodate DSTV.

Mines on debit, so I don't keep track of the amount :p

:(

Since when do debit orders go out if the amount changes all the time? I thought you had to consent to a certain amount leaving your account on a fixed day each month and to a fixed person? What if one month they bill you like R2000 or something? :(

Hehe, I knew it would not be long before the DSTV fanboi showed up.

*Prepares to attempt to avoid usual pro/con DSTV is a ripoff debate...

Had a quick look.

Seems that DSTV Compact is pants, nor does it come with MNet.

500 bucks for watching TV seems like tearing the ring out for me.

I reckon twenty bucks a night to watch a DVD on Monday or Tuesdays when terrestial is really dire and then a hundred or so on the weekend to watch the sport in a pub and I'm just about up to the 500 notes that it would cost me for the full DSTV package.

I'm afraid it's a no-brainer.

Well if you're gonna be spending about R500 a month anyway, then I agree with Killa, that DSTV is the way to go.

it might be crap but compared to SABC and E-TV, it's heaven, lol :D

Yeah, but this way I decide what DVD I want to watch (or my Girlfriend does).

Also I get to slope off down to the bar, and get a bit of banter with the locals as I generously disseminate my vast knowledge of whatever sport is on offer ;)

Incidentally, my bad: seems that the compact version DOES have MNet.
