MNet - how does it fit in?

Yeah, but this way I decide what DVD I want to watch (or my Girlfriend does).

Also I get to slope off down to the bar, and get a bit of banter with the locals as I generously disseminate my vast knowledge of whatever sport is on offer ;)

Incidentally, my bad: seems that the compact version DOES have MNet.

I see....

Does the compact version have anything else of use, like any sports channels though?

:(

Since when do debit orders go out if the amount changes all the time? I thought you had to consent to a certain amount leaving your account on a fixed day each month and to a fixed person? What if one month they bill you like R2000 or something? :(

You get a letter or e-mail notifying you of a price change. Since I won't give up my sport and can afford DSTV, I cough it up.

I've never been wrongly billed BTW. So R2k won't happen without me noticing it.

The joys of a business account :D

That's from an article in June Last year, not sure how relevant it is today.

This thread discusses it, but the conclusion seems to be that the sports channels are really only for football supporters.

yeah, SS3 and 4 are soccer only channels ...... sheesh, couldn't they add a normal sports channel in there.

Depends what sport you're into. Mnet will show the rugby (Super 14, Currie Cup, Springbok Internationals).

Tennis, motor racing & cricket is predominantly on Supersport 2 (DSTV Premium). ESPN is all the American sports and a few other sports like Champions League soccer.

It depends on your budget dude and what channel content you want.

Bad thing is that DSTV only offers a channel choice to corporates / pubs / hotels. The normal consumer can only choose Premium, Compact or Select.

Me and my Girlfriend are getting a bit tired of SABC TV 1,2 & 3 and eTV.

WE don't have the bucks for DSTV.

But when we pick up the newspaper, the TV columns carry all the listings for MNet.

What is that? How do we get connected? How much does it cost?

I got MNET a few months ago.

Got my mom's old MNET comcrypt decoder. MNET don't sell them anymore.
You need to find a 2nd hand one, the easiest place is Cash Crusaders, (cash converters don't sell them) or gumtree or something.

You take it to a MNET shop, or phone them, fax your proof of ownership to them, and they'll hook u up.

U get the MNET channel, plus 1 "combined" sports channel.
They show all the Rugby, most of the cricket and most of the F1 on the sports channel.

U do not need a dish, just your usual aerial.
Costs R250 pm.

It has M-Net series, this is different from M-Net

Well, they do. Then you spend 2 phone calls to them of about 45 minutes each (on your dime) to get it sorted out.

I can confirm that you can subscribe to MNET alone.
I'm doing it right now as are plenty people. I actually resubscribed about a year ago.

You can also open new MNET subscriptions.

The issue though is that you can't buy a new decoder anymore. You can swap an old or broken one for a new one.

They are definitely working on phasing it out.

What I find amazing about DSTV Compact is that it has no MNET channel.

lol. Whoever thought those packages up is a clever wally.

I mean, who wants MNET only...for R250 a month when you could get a larger selection for 50 bucks less?...but then
Who'd want the Compact and Select without MNET? but then
No one will get both the MNET sub and the Compact/Select coz it will come to around R400 and is silly having an aerial + dish and 2 decoders

So? U left with just subscribing to Premium of cause...

You can no longer subscribe to MNet as a stand-alone product. It's being phased out in mind of the digital migration!

DsTV Premium (R400+) or DsTV Compact (R200) per month are your Multichoice packages.

Or you can buy a Free-To-Air satellite package from independent satellite installers and watch alternative satellite packages. Whatever the dish picks up, you can watch it. Not to say it's any good :D

otherchoice pron ftw!!:D
