is it possible to get MNET as a stand-alone channel with free channels on a DSTV decoder with taking the DSTV bouquets. I currently have a Comcrypt 4000 MNET decoder and the picture quality isn't too good, it sometimes looses signal on MNEt or sometimes just flashes error codes such as "E4" or something like that. Last night there was no MNET signal halfway during "Joey" at 7:15pm then again, a few minutes after smallville and throught CSI.

Nope, it isn't possible... I looked into it very recently. In the end, just went for the normal DSTV bouquet.

I tried a new aerial, I even have one of those amplifier aerial's but the problem is also the loss of signal at times, like the other day there was no MNET for a few hours. I emailed multichoice, but still no reply.

Normal analogue TV is very poor in my area too... I had a big aerial and an amp, but it was still bad... SABC3 was okay, but the rest (including MNET) were not good.

I couldn't take it anymore... Its the year 2006! Shurely we should have a decent TV picture! :D

Hopefully things will be better when DVB-T is launched in about 2 years time (AFAIK) then the signal will be digital, over a normal RF aerial.

hey guys sorry for opening this thread but my daughter was given this decoder today (compact 4000 1) but no manual. i have plugged it into my cables and i get a flashing EO at the moment. how do i set this thing?

probably a faulty decoder. Try changing the channel on the decoder, see if the error goes away.

To get the decoder replaced for next to nothing, just transfer it to your name and sign up for the decoder care contract, it's R10 per month, then wait a month and go to multichoice and ask them to swop out the decoder for you, you can then cancel the care contract.

You need to Subscribe to MNET (analogue) to use the decoder.

i messed around with the buttons and could pick up about 3 or 4 channels but not mnet.

ok but i do have mnet at my hose so i just plugged it in here, my daughter has subscribed today so does that mean it will only work at her house?

why does it not work here by me (i have a compact 9000)?

You Subscription is linked to the decoder, each decoder has a unique serial/decoder number, it you look at the back or underneath you'll see a number dX xxxx or something, you cannot use the second decoder without a second subscription for that decoder.

oh ok it still does not make sense to me but then again i am part of the old mens club. i will go test it at her house then i think.

thanks for the help buddy.

265 for mnet and the 32 channel thing for dstv is around the same price right?

Sounds like they making a mint off people just watching mnet, geez 265 bucks for mnet is heavy.

was just saying earlier to my family that maybe we should change to DSTV instead and get more channels for that price.

Believe me Mnet is way better than the rubbish on DSTV compact
