How much is it to just get Mnet? is this possible without the Premium Package with Multichoice.

Vodacom has a Multichoice service for R130 something per month, check their site ;) Just getting mnet would be close to that amount. Not sure if you have mnet on it though.

Isnt mnet pricy? So pricy infact it would be better to get dstv unless you dont have a dish and decoder cos then it sort of evens out

yep i dont even bother, i pay me R500 odd for me pvr at least that way il get all the channels i could possibly want for now oh and that new animax channel when she comes out in Nov *salivates*:D

Yes - finally sailor seifuku on SA TV :). I never thought I'd see the day. ^_^
I'm suprised DSTV will show shows like Negima, there is a bit of lolicon humour
there, it may not go well with some of the conservative TV viewers, 90%
of the characters across all anime are underage females and most of the time there is at least
one lewd/fanservice reference to them per episode. Will SA be able to handle this
animated 'maniac' Japanese pop-culture, who knows? :)

omg nevermind and thanks

You could also get the Easyview service from DSTV @ R20 per month, it's got all the regular channels, plus 2 or 3 extras. If only for picture and sound quality, I'd say it's worth it.

How old are you by the way? ;)

It is around R200 for MNet on its own, but Mnet don't sell decoders anymore. I guess they would rather you bought a DSTV system. That and with the switchover to Digital TV coming soon I guess they are actually being responsible and not selling you a device that will be obsolete in a year and a bit.

Going OT here, but how on earth is that going to work? I know they're saying there will be settop boxes for older tv's, and that they will be subsidised - but I'm sure lots of people still won't be able to afford them. And what about mnet decoders? If they think that everyone with mnet will just switch over to dstv, they are going to be very disappointed...

By all the regular channels - you mean SABC and eTV, right? I'm sure it doesn't have mnet, or the mnet series channel or anything like that.

Any you still need a dish and decoder, so it's not just R20 pm...

Mnet analogue service is forced to phase out because of a government decision to stop all analogue broadcasting in 2012. This is happening everywhere in the world with many European countries already switched off. Everyone will not have buy or subscribe to DSTV - fortunately we still have a choice but most older TV's will not work anymore and some form of a decoder will be required.

I don't get the fact that they still offer Mnet-only at R200pm ... yet they don't sell the analogue decoder ... but they don't offer Mnet-only on DSTV decoder? So - er - am I missing something?

Yeah, I know it's happening worldwide. And while older TVs won't work as is, that's the point of the set top box - to convert from digital to analogue for older TVs. My point is, what will happen to mnet? Will the set top boxes just convert that too? That will still be okay, but if the only way to get mnet will be to subscribe either to the full dstv service, or even just a mnet-only-but-still-satellite service, they will lose a lot of subscribers. Most people won't install a dish just for mnet!

I personally think that mnet should be a bolt-on option for all the current offerings, so you can use your existing hardware for the free-to-air channels and mnet. This being MC, I guess that is never going to be an option though.

when they move MNet to digital then they will be able to offer DSTV lite bouquets without having to go the full satellite route. I guess there will be a standard that you would be able to decode all the free to air channels as well.
They might actually put a service together that would get me to ditch the full DSTV service.
