A 70-year-old woman, her daughter, 56, and granddaughter, 26, were stabbed to death with bush knives and other objects on Wednesday night, said captain Zamukulungisa Jozana.
"The mob of villagers who believed they were witches held them captive at the Gura locality from 16:00 to 20:00 and then killed them," he said.
No arrests have been made and police are investigating three cases of murder.
