Hi guys,

I really hope you can help me with a problem that a friend of mine has. He recently bought a vodafone K4605 modem. He connects to the internet with the modem and everything is fine, he can browse the internet and all is well. Now the problem comes in when he want to play online with his xbox 360. The xbox is connected to the laptop via an Ethernet cable. As soon as he switches on the xbox, the modem starts disconnecting.

He then reconnects, plays online for a couple of minutes and then the internet just disconnects again.

Does anyone have any suggestions for me please. He is running Windows 7 on the laptop but the problem only starts when the xbox is connected to the internet and then switched on.

Thank you

Something to try, working on maybe its a power issue, would be to hook the modem up to the laptop via a self powered hub or a Y cable.
Maybe the laptop is struggling to keep up with power demands & causing the modem to drop out.

He tried that, still doing the same. The connection is stable when browsing the net but as soon as he tries to play xbox live it disconnects or can't even connect to xbox live. He says it works with a MTN sim in the modem, only when using the vodacom sim does it happen.

What signal strength does he get with MTN and with Vodacom? It could be that he has a weaker Vodacom signal and the modem has to work harder.

The signal strenght is the same when the mtn sim is inserted. If the xbox is set to assign a ip address automatically it does not connect at all.

That's what I'm also thinking but I don't really know anything regarding ip addresses and networking.
