Mobile calls on Emirates flights

It seems that the restrictions on making mobile calls on flights may soon be lifted. Blackberry and other data services are said to follow.

Most likely only fully usable by the supa rich. Its a GSM pico cell fed by satellite and the airline (or its tech partner) now become the roaming provider.

Ground based roaming rates are already scary, would hate to see what airborne ones will be like. Still maybe SMS will be within reach of, and useful to, regular (coach class) passangers.
