Hi guys.

I'm currently an Mweb adsl subscriber but their torrent service has become extremely poor over the past few weeks. I am looking at getting 3g to replace them.

I unfortunately won't be able to cancel my mweb contract due to business reasons.

The mobile connection will be used mostly for downloading torrents as i am otherwise happy with mweb's service. What package would you guys recommend for this purpose? I was looking at 8ta's 60+60 deal?

Thanks for the help.

That's a very expensive way of getting better speeds :wtf: , maby just PM mweb guy and ask him to look into it

Dude what the hell. Just buy a capped account for torrents, or switch to Openweb Gold Uncapped (currently on promotion), which is apparently good for torrents.

I don't want two adsl accounts because i don't want to have to keep switching between them all the time. I need the mweb account running continuously so i can't switch to an openweb account just to download torrents. That's why i'm looking at a wireless account for torrents.

That's got to be the most expensive, and nonsensical solution I have come across.

You are aware that Mweb are not the only service provider around? Are you tied into some sort of contract with them? Either way, 3g will be insanely costly in comparison to ADSL. It really makes sense to just try out a few other providers first.

Either way, you are going to land up running two service providers: one wired, and one wireless = insanely expensive.

Axxess are running free 3GB account trials. Openweb are forever offering free trials of their uncapped accounts. Afrihost are pretty damn cheap and I hear good things since their MTN balls-up...

Either you are just going to sit with more problems than when you started or you are just going to be broke or a combination of the two. I would also suggest a separate ADSL account if you are unhappy with the speeds - you can just set up two different PPPoE connections from your computer and choose which to use when you want to use it.

Then go with one ADSL account, which is what I mentioned Openweb for. Considering that your 3G proposal will cost a fortune, it would be cheaper to just get less shaped ADSL.

Only used torrents after 12 with 8ta's 60+60 deal and havent had a problem

As i said above, i can't close the mweb account for business reasons which i don't really want to go into. I know the 3g option isn't the cheapest, but with mwebs crap service at the moment, I don't really have any other option.

I'm not a very heavy downloader so that's why i was considering the 3g option. It allows me to keep the adsl account and use the 3g every now and then for torrenting. I probably do about 10 gigs a month with torrents on average. And before someone mentions it again, i know a capped account would be better for this purpose but as i'm about to say for the third time now - i do not want a second adsl line.

But you don't need a second ADSL line, nor do you have to close the Mweb one. Just don't use the Mweb one...:erm:

If you set your router to half bridged mode you can keep your Mweb on your router and your open Web gold account on your pc.

Forget the 3G option. Seriously, never think it or speak of it ever again. It's madness.

Here's your solution: downstorm.co.za or zbigz.com.

Could you explain this a bit more please? Sounds like a viable option. Does that mean both accounts run simultaneously?

brn88, why do both have to run simultaneously? Does your work require you to login with your Mweb account? If not, but it can't be cancelled, then that's fine. Just test out some other accounts for the time being from other ISPs. Surely that is the prudent thing to do here, before switching technologies and having to actively manage two accounts?

Also remember that if you opt for a contract on 3G, you open yourself up to massive OOB bills if something goes wrong without you noticing...

Ok i took everyone's advice and got a openweb account. Thanks for the advice guys

Hi There,
The half bridge option would depend on the router that you have as it is not always supported.
Yes going 3G is going to be pricey compared to the Mweb connectivity.

Can you not change the contract there to give you better torrent time?

Regards

Tim
