Good Morning,

My sister recently moved in a new home which doesn't have telkom at all the process for application and installation is 6 week upwards. She is on MTN and the problem is she has none to no signal and can't utilize her afrihost data while they are waiting for Telkom to install.

Is there something that we can purchase and install at her house to boost signal strength?

http://www.signalboostersouthafrica.com/

Would something from their site work?

Thanks for the assistance

china signal booster, there was a thread about it, lots of threads about it. ilegal, but they work.

So I have been doing abit more reading.

The antenna booster work with the idea that you connect the cable to your cellphone? Thats crazy if that is correct. Or am I being crazy?

No, signal boster is like having cellphone tower inside your house. No cable to your cellphone. She must speak to MTN, for some customers they will install booster in her house. It will be professional and safe.

I have the same issue across all networks in my new house. We are in a dead zone but 50m down from us is full LTE... Mobile networks are not interested in installing a repeater cos there's just 2 of us here affected on prepaid.

Would be interested in doing a repeater job myself - i see a lot of people mentioning poynting, checking out their site @ http://www.antennas.co.za/

It is illegal and unsafe. When installed incorrectly it can enter uncontrolled oscillations radiating lot of microwaves inside your house.

All of them are illegal unless installed by the network provider or authorised installer.
Problem is that such devices retransmit signal using spectrum assigned to the cellular network.
If doubt, check if the are ICASA approved for general usage.

So a update. I went to my sisters place in broadacres over the weekend. The top floor of the house has perfect signal but when you are on the ground floor the signal cuts to nil and even not registered on the network sometimes. This is for both vodacom and mtn.

how is this possible?

Laymens terms.

High points will always have better signal. Low points will have more obstructions in the way. That's why radio towers are mounted high

yes that is the general explanation but can it really go from H+ to no connection due to a roughly 10 metre drop in altitude?

Is there a way I can motivate for MTN to install a signal booster at my house?
