Mobile upload speeds falling behind

Mobile Internet upload speeds have not kept pace with the significant surge in mobile download speed in South Africa over the past few years.

A MyBroadband reader recently contacted us and complained about "terrible" upload speeds compared to download speeds on their mobile connection.

One key technical difference not mentioned in the article.

TDD and FDD setups.

I find locking my LTE router to TDD Bands results in poor upload speed.

Locking my LTE router to FDD Bands results in almost symmetrical speeds.

When I joined this forum, the state of the art was ADSL. The A means asymmetrical as in upload and download at different speeds.

Has the ratio changed much in last 20 years ? Considering the shift to video.

Why the need to contact you? You guys can go see our speeds on the speed check competition thread.

I think the article is a bit of an over simplification. FDD and TDD definitely part of the argument but also missing the portion of handset/device capabilities in regards to Carrier Aggregation as well as limitations in 4g/5g technologies and NSA vs SA 5G deployments.

Yes, it has become a lot more symmetric with all technologies. Also with demand being on the download side it's usually affected more with bandwidth limited technologies and in some cases uploads can be faster than downloads.
