What would you prefer for a modem/router from about R1200-R1400

asus rt-ac1200g+ looks nice , its for online gaming

Depends on your skillset, the routers I can suggest isn't really going to help a lot as it takes more time to configure them than it takes to download a game

Nothing wrong with that ASUS and as I recall that model is the Broadcom one so you can even install DD-WRT on it if you wanted.

Then your modem wouldn’t work though.

Not all Broadcom chips are supported by DD-WRT or OpenWRT

No but in the case of this ASUS specifically there are a few models with almost identical model names of which one is Mediatek and doesn’t work while another is Broadcom and does work.

I mistakenly bought the Mediatek one which is why I know. Think it’s the one without the +.

Btw most routers that have a modem aren't supposed by open firmware from my experience.

I have no knowledge in regards to modems/routers. I am just looking into getting one perfect for gaming and also wifi strenght

Thats a good price , does modems/routers actually make a diffrence in gaming ? I have a dlink 2750u at the moment but keep loosing wifi connection

Instead of spending a 1000 bucks on a new router why not just buy an Ethernet cable for >R100 and plug in your device?

It won't make your latency better directly.

But if you are playing over wifi right now and it's crap you are probably adding more latency locally.

So a new router with better Wifi will see an improvement.

Just be realistic. You can't sit 200m away from the Router and expect an awesome connection.

its only used in home so luckly not 200m , i run cable with ps4 but wifi using phones and so on . I will update if this gets beter with the new isp

That is just a router, not a modem, so you will need to use that with your D-Link modem. If you want an all in one Asus device with a modem equivalent to that one look at the ASUS DSL-AC52U.

If you're comfortable with having a separate modem and router I highly recommend you look at the Tenda AC10U, I have the AC9 I bought August last year and it has not given me a single minutes issue.

If you're only looking for a WiFi AP, you could get one of those Ubiquiti UniFi APs. Apparently they're amazing.

Aside from that, I have an Asus router and absolutely love it. I've literally never had a single issue with it over 2 years.

Btw , since the line was migrated last night i had no disconnections yet. Think it was only mweb like always
