Modern fighter pilot games (PC)

Preferably looking for non fly-by-wire or overly arcade. A good mix between simulation and arcade is what I'm thinking about without having to learn 500+ page manual to be able to play.

Any suggestions?

I've been looking for one myself recently. It doesn't seem like there really are any. All the games about modern planes have more arcade gameplay.

I'm hoping the impending release of the Occulus Rift might bring out a slew of flight simulators again.

H.A.W.X 1 & 2 might fit into this? 1 is far better than 2, but is very short

If you into sandbox and creating your own missions, ARMA 2 or 3(beta) might be a good option. It's not arcady, nor is it pure sim.

Otherwise you could always get DCS World and turn the difficulty levels all the way down. You can download the client and try the free SU-25T Frogfoot. If you like it, I'd recommend you buy the Flaming Cliffs 3 module as all the planes aren't as ultra realistic as the specialised modules (A10, BS2 or Huey).

DCS modules are pretty study orientated, lots of systems lots of reading/learning and practicing.

Fear not though. The Flamming Cliffs module is a much lower fidelity sim with large multiplayer options and multiple air frames to fly.Worth a look, you need a Lock On disc though.

Miss the 90s glory days of flight simulators

We need a good space flight sim....preferably a Star Wars one in the vein on X-Wing vs Tie Fight, X-Wing Alliance etc.

I donated a grand to that in the initial crowd starter phase. It's gonna be awesome!

Still, I'd love to gets into the cockpit of an x-wing using next gen pc capabilities and true free flight.

The problem with Star Citizen is it's going to be an MMO. I'll try it out when it releases, but I don't expect it to really scratch my space-sim itch.

As far as space-sims go, I'm looking forward to X: Rebirth.

Yes I've got my eye on DCS, but first wings of prey. Thanks!
