Modifying your car now 'illegal'

The irony, of course, is that those who are willing to spend their hard earned cash making their cars safer and better looking are the ones being punished. Not the thousands of clearly unroadworthy taxis that make up a larger part of the road death toll.

So now I can up my cars power by 200% but i am not allowed to add bigger brakes, wheels and tires and adjustable suspension.

Sounds safe to me.

any fittings not clearly specified by the car’s manufacturer

How you going to boost power by 200% with no visual modifications.

QFT.

Just enforce the current laws properly instead of coming up with ridiculous new laws.

I doubt it - but he is joking around to make a point and so am I. Chill

Spot on. Focus on the real problem vehicles, whether Taxis or any other deathtrap.

Will adding a sub be classified as modifying?
Hell even adding an aftermarket radio is surely modifying?

What about off-road vehicles? Vintage vehicles? Vehicles where manufacturer parts are no longer available? Insurance claims where they use "alternate" parts?

Figure I may as well just park my double cab then.... its got raised suspension and such... so the roadworthy it got recently is clearly wrong.

The article makes it sound like modded vehicles are required to go through roadworthy again. If they pass, it is fine. This is logical, since if I take a roadworthy car, mod it extensively, then it is no longer considered roadworthy until the new parts are inspected, right?

If it is a blanket ban on even larger wheels or exhausts, it is ridiculous.

ANY modifications. Even adding an aftermarket air filter is deemed illegal. So good luck getting your vehicle's power to 200% with no mods to begin with.

It's always been illegal just never enforced...

This.

I think basically they are going to use this law to target street racers specifically.

The problem is that when they raid the illegal races there is nothing to charge the guys with... At least this way they can take the cars off the road.
