Yes, but the 15 is a percentage of the width in relation to the height.
So a 185/15 has a height of 27.75 and a 195/15 has a height of 29.25...

LOL, no...

The difference is smaller on lower profile tyres, but incorrect sizing can be an issue.

If vehicle manufacturers didn't build in the sufficient tolerances to cater for changes in wheel size, aftermarket wheels would have been outlawed a long time ago. I think you're using the wrong example to make a fair point.

Wrong, the 15" is the size of the wheel in inches. So you will get a 195/50 x 15 and a 185/50 x 15, just like you can get a 195/50 x 16.

He didn't say 15", he said 195/15. If it was a 15", it would be: The size would be 195/15R15 (although this wouldn't be a valid size - more likely to be 195/15R17)
I would never guess the number after the slash was for the rim size as it is no part of any standard naming convention.

Well, I for one have NEVER seen a 15 profile, so I assumed he meant rim size.

It is my understanding that a 225/55 R16 will have a different radius/ circumference/height than a 195/55 R16, because the 55 is a percentage of the 225 tyre width. Hence, the speedo could become incorrect.

Also, cops in Cape Town know where to look and how to tell if a car has aftermarket software. This has happened to friends of mine frequently on weekends.

How can they pick it up if the car was flashe via OBD Port? If it's running a Race chip or Uniq, yes, then they can find it if they know what to look for, but a ECU flash they will NEVER be able to "see".

From the FB quote Captain Beer posted:
The City has no issue with motor vehicles that have been modified legally and in line with the legislation and standards as outlined above. What we do have an issue with is the large number of vehicles that are modified illegally, rendering them unsafe. Alterations done by mechanics, welders, boilermakers, etc. who are not registered to do so are illegal and the law is very clear about the issue. Contrary to the information in the article, City traffic officers are clamping down on modified vehicles and the statistics from our illegal street racing operations indicate as much.

So, if HiQ, TwT or Speedy fit wider/low profile/non-standard tires or drop a branched exhaust system in, they need to ensure that it is within the legal limits, and if not, request/notify that the vehicle be checked for its road worthiness?

Getting back to my previous comment:
Once again, just raising it as a point for debate. I'm just thinking along the lines of prevention rather than correction.

The onus should not squarely lie on the owner, but also the supplier.

Easy peasy if they have a scan tool and co-operation from the manufacturers.

Usually because the wa nker who drives it has covered the car in go faster stickers, so his opposition can see just how fast he is! :p

I've just skimmed through a couple of articles, but if my understanding is correct; I can go out & buy a P1, Spyder or LaFerrari (cars designed to break track records & which I will likely crash trying to exit a parking lot) & they're all roadworthy, but I can't put arguably safer shocks or tyres on my Corsa because that would make me a 'street racer'?

You know that is BS, so stop acting like a 16 year old girl and accept the fact that the authorities are trying to get rid of some of the death-traps on our roads.

I'm cool with that. I'm not cool with giving some pork chop the authority to decide what is legal and safe, and what isn't. They're not trained in cars after all...

Mike - I am pretty sure that it will finally involve a roadworthy test before any car is removed from the road - If I am to believe what I am reading on Facebook, written (?) by testosterone infused so called petrol heads who are posting pictures of their "Cop beater" cars - one of the a late 70's Mazda hatch that has been fitted with a 600 kw (?) turbo rotary so that he can show the cops a clean pair of heels, however, most of the cry babies should have their cars crushed and their licences permanently removed!

I'm pretty sure that it has always been the case, just never enforced.

Makes sense - as a car is designed around certain parameters - now take your Citigolf and drop in a modded VR6 motor without doing anything to brakes and suspension and you have a problem.

Far too many "hot" cars running around that are actual deathtraps from a safety point of view.

Umm, a Citigolf is basically a "deathtrap" these days compared to modern cars and the ratings they earn on NCAP?

there not allowed on the road cuz there illegal,so what they gonna do?

also breakdown trucks, theres no way in hell those will be legal then ,not just the look and outside mods, the engine also, suspension

ambulances also,so they will just let ppl die cuz they dont have legal cars??

as,eg Ford dont make cop cars??do they??
a MODDING company MOD them into cop cars, and sell them to who ever it need to go to
