They do this a lot I think (and not just Mondo). I signed up for a MTN Wireless internet solution through Mondo. The guy on the phone told me I would get 5G speeds in my area... up to 1000Mb/s, and MTN would be faster than Vodacom in my area Vodacom would have been up to 300Mb/s), I had 30 days to test the connection and if I did not like it I could cancel and keep the modem (Real helpful and friendly, best option for me at a great price). It was a time of weakness and I am struggling with no Fiber access in my complex and slow upload speeds through another provider so I went for it (I had 30 days to decide before I cancel my old connection, plenty of time to test).
I ended up only getting 10Mb/s uploads and downloads and it turns out I only had 10 day cool down and I had to give the router back to MTN (Mind it had to be MTN not a franchise store, so Mall of Africa MTN). I think I was lucky enough to get it back to MTN on time and to send all the relevant information to Mondo, I am sure MTN will cancel the contract, Mondo Call Center agents say they are working on it, but I am still waiting. There Website chat and email address is useless as well. I need to say this clearly its not MTN (Sort of it is for allowing Mondo to do this I am sure to a lot of people, but it could have been Vodacom or Telkom or any other providers) its defiantly Mondo.
Why MTN/Vodacom/Telcom/Cell-C, etc. don't you audit/screen/check some of the business you get from these kinds of companies? Check why it was canceled? I am sure if you (MTN/Vodacom/Telcom/Cell-C, etc.) call the user and get some of the call recordings (Possibly Fictional, I was promised a copy of the call recordings over the phone as well) you will find a lot of problems...
It would have been a great connection if I did not already have a solution that gave me much faster downloads. But I guess the guy had to lie to me to get me to sign up, I am betting they make a lot of money out of the people that tried to cancel after the "10 day" cooldown period (but before the "30 Days") or did not know they could cancel or just gave up trying.
Never trust them... Actually never trust anyone that calls you and has a great offer/deal. Get on the internet, do the research and go to the source directly. Since this incident I have changed my standard answer to anyone (Literary anyone I did not call myself) trying to sell me something overt the phone to NO, absolutely not! Also I might start recording these types of calls from my side as well from now on.
Even the guys in the MTN stores (I had to go to a couple before I found the correct info on where to return the router) was complaining that they get a lot of returns on these contracts, and I should not use those types of companies and rather go directly to MTN.
I am sorry for the long post, I had to vent someplace and maybe this will help someone else not fall for something like this.
