Can anyone recommend someone or a place in Joburg (pref. West Rand) who can repair a Dell 24" monitor. The screen goes on and off constantly, so I suspect a power or capacitor issue.

Normally not worthwhile to repair monitors. They are much cheaper now then ever before. So best just replace both if need be.

Dell S2416H. My wife had it hooked up to her laptop today, not a blink. My other screen has been on the original one's HDMI and power cables all day, also no issue. Huh?

Not worth, been down this road. You might as well get a new one.

I'd say hellishly overpriced, it's a 2012 model. U2412M. You can get much newer monitors for about half the price second hand.
I'm pretty sure it was much cheaper last week.

Being in the industry, you probably get bargains easily, but I've sadly never come across 24" monitors for less than a grand.
Maybe I'm looking in the wrong places?🤷‍♂️

I'm not talking about new stock, just like that monitor isn't new stock.

Samsung curved 24" @ R 1,350, age unknown

Dell 24" @ R 1,000, 2019 model

LG 24" @ R 600, "old"

Dell 24" @ R 1,000, 2016 model

Samsung 24" @ R 1,000, 8 years old (making it ~2016)

Dell 24" @ R 850, 2016 model

Samsung 24" @ R 1,000, 4 years old (making it ~2020)

etc.

Everything other than LG listed as "old" is between slightly (4 years) newer and significantly (8 years) newer than the Dell, with most varying between 40% and 66% the price of the one on Takealot (the exception being a unit that's curved (and FreeSync-compatible, not that it really matters at 60Hz).

At the R 1,500 price-point, you start seeing some actual gaming monitors appear, such as this Asus 144Hz monitor which is 6 years old (half the age of the Dell):

I'm not on Carbonite, so I'm missing out then.
Will check them out.

That's the Dell Ultrasharp range, even those old ones are still very good monitors.
They were/are good, but even ~10 years ago you could get them for around the same price (and back then some even had the remainder of 3 year warranty):

9 years ago, less than a year old, remainder of 3 year warranty @ R 1,800

9 years ago, unsure of age but couldn't be more than a year or so, no warranty (although likely possible through Dell) @ R 1,200

5 years ago, 4 years old, no warranty @ R 800

Etc. That's why I think R 1,500 today is FAR too high. If it hasn't failed after 12 years, it's unlikely to fail within exactly the next 6 months.
