Does it beep shortly after you switched it on?
Is there a light on the mobo & are the fans spinning up?
I assume the 8800 gets a separate juice connection via the PSU? Swop this around with another one if you can. Reseat both GFX and RAM & do a general check on all the connections.
Did you disconnect the PSU from the wallsocket before you removed the HDD?
Remove the PSU from the wall socket, remove the CMOS battery for 60 seconds and short out the two contact that create a circuit with the battery for about 10s.
If you're on a real troubleshooting spree, then also remove the mobo from the case to make sure its not shorting.
I'm thinking you shorted something on the mobo, either with static or while removing the HDD...hope you're lucky and its not permanent damage.

I cant find the reciept for this one so wont be able to get it replaced for free. I'll go look for another board tomorrow.
No beeps at all.
All the lights come on and the fans are spinning.
The graphics card does need extra power, Ive made sure thats in fine. When its not the card makes an awful high pitched noise. So Im sure its getting all the power it needs. Ive also put in an old 6800 card but the problem is the same.
When I took the hdd out I turned off the plug and removed the power cable from the back of the case.
I have reset the bios but still nothing.
My next step is to dismantle the entire computer and then put it back together again. But first, Im going for a cooling off breather before I throw this whole computer out of the window.
Im in the UK at the moment and PC components are really cheap compared to what we earn, so its not that big of a deal to get another one.

I know its boot configuration problems.All you really got to do is plug the ac out till all power leaves the boards capacitors.Wait a while and take tyour battery out(cmos) and plug it back in.
If you dont come right swap the harddrives around and also check your usb pins for short circuit
Sometimes when this happens after i take out a harddrive i short out the pins from the usb plug on the board,This always kicks my pc back on and the no signal disappear .I dont suggest you do this

Well, quite a good motherboard will cost abot 5% of my net salary so I think its pretty cheap.
So I've dismantled the whole PC and left the battery out for an hour. When I put it all back together again it still didnt work. Im just going to have to go ahead and buy replacement parts.

When you dismantled the PC, did you hook up the basics (whilst out of the case) - m/b, ram, cpu, boot HDD, keyboard, mouse and monitor - and try to boot up?
No display signal almost always points to one of two things - Dead MB or dead GFX....I have experienced this twice, both dead MB's. Best way to test is to put the Gfx in another machine, if it works there’s your answer, if not you can safely assume it is your Gfx Card.....However I had a problem recently where I had no Display and it turned out to be both my MB and Gfx that went Pooof, which was most likely caused by a power surge or something. Good Luck

I've tested every piece of hardware in another pc except the motherboard. All work fine so it must be the MB.
well there is your answer......As i mentioned that has happened twice to me, I know how annoying it is!

Actually in my previous post i said different.Its always got to do with harddrive controller/setup/boot/power stopping for a brief moment on the mb.I used to get no signals when i plugged in a usb stick
.THe pc would shut down and when i rebooted it would display a no signal.All i did was what i said in a previous post
