Im in the market for a new monitor.
I play TTP PUBG on PC mostly.

I've just upgraded to a Rtx 3060 gpu.
Ryzen 5 3600
MSI B450M Bazooka plus

Current monitor is a old AOC 27" 60hz

Looking for a 27" IPS 144HZ+ 1MS 1440
maybe a 32"?
Budget best bang for my buck +-R8000

A few questions please
1 Is it best to connect with display port
2 how much difference is HDMI 1.2 1.4 and 2.0
3 is it best to connect headset to monitor or a usb of the pc for best "7.1"
4 Is there a huge difference in recent/new IPS, VA or TN panels

Suggestions and advice on the above please.
TIA

You are not going to get better than that for the price.

1. DP is preferred as Freesync/Gsync mostly only works over DP. And it is fast enough to support high resolutions with high refresh rates

2. Hdmi version makes a massive difference (although you should preferably use DP). For example Hdmi 2.0 supports 4k at 60fps where Hdmi 1.4 can only do 4k at 24fps.

3. It is best to connect to your PCs sound card (or USB port).

4. There are quite a few differences. IPS is the best overall (in my opinion) but also the most expensive. It got the best colors, where as TN has the fastest response rate.

Agreed. I wouldn't get a TN panel - only IPS or VA.

VA panels have better contrast ratios and colour reproduction than IPS, but suffer from poor viewing angles.

Dell S2721DGFA is probably best bang for your buck. 27inch, high refresh rate IPS and 2k

Another +1 for S2721DGFA. I also have it with a 3060.

Dell S2721DGFA gets my recommendation as well.

Don't just look at claimed response times, as the fastest response times are usually measured at high overdrive settings with lots of overshoot. Overshoot looks much worse than low response time smearing. These days I wouldn't buy a gaming monitor without a Hardware Unboxed review showing levels of overshoot, unless it's a really cheap monitor.

Imo, "Low contrast" will only be an issue if you use it in a dimly lit room, so for me it isn't such an important metric for me.

Agreed. I was miffed with the poor contrast but then I started playing games with the curtains open / lights on (I got I into the habit to avoid glare / eye strain) and now it looks amazing (referring to the Dell)

On a side note, I previously had the TN Dell S2719dgf and I found it a little better for gaming. I think the response time was a bit quicker being a TN panel but the difference is there but negligible. I didn't really have a problem with the colour either (monitor before that was a high end IPS) so that must say something. It certainly wasn't like those cheap TN panels where colour changes when you move 1mm.

Thanks for the input so far much appreciated. I'll keep my eyes open for a Dell S2721DGFA on Carb at a decent price.

LG UltraGear 32GN600 32" QHD 2560 x 1440 Gaming Monitor / 165Hz Refresh Rate / 1ms Response Rate / AMD FreeSync ™ Premium / Virtually Frameless Design / Incredible Speed to Victory / 32GN600

I have older version still work great!

I'm also looking at the above but as my secondary monitor for my sim racing rig. Got a 3070 so I'd be happy with 1440p at around 120hz. Should I rather look for a G sync monitor or do you reckon it's not really necessary?

Would just like to add to the VA: modern VA panels viewing angles are pretty much the same as IPS for e.g. Dell's 2020 and 2021 lines based on me using them.

You shouldn't really worry about VA vs IPS besides cost for modern monitors unless your work includes having to do "ultra" color accurate work, as in e.g. web dev you can easily get by with VA, only if you're working on pretty high budget stuff would IPS vs VA color reproduction matter.

The monitor runs gsync compitable mode, how i am running it on my 3060

I have the Samsung 32" M7 which is VA, and the viewing angles and colors are absolutely fine

My LG is a VA panel and it's pretty good, sure it doesn't beat the IPS Acer that it replaced, but it's really not awful.
