There are 3 members of my family with Telkom LTE data bundles - 2 of us on the 80GB+80GB contract packages & another with a month-to month prepaid top-up package.

Over the last week or so - we have all experienced a massive depletion of the remaining Daytime data bundles on all 3 of our packages:

I personally topped-up my one brother's LTE prepaid bundle on Saturday with a 10GB+10GB data bundle (R 149) - he called me last night & said that ALL of his 10GB Daytime data has now mysteriously been depleted - all he uses it for is for Whatsapp & the occasional YouTube videos on his phone, as his PC is currently broken & he is not using it at all. His 10GB+10GB bundle usually lasts him for the ENTIRE month - not just 5 days...

My other brother also noticed that on his 80GB+80GB LTE data bundle, between 6 to 8 GB has mysteriously disappeared as well from his Daytime data bundle PER DAY over the last 2 days - he is using the eMatic AGT419 Android TV box that I gave him earlier this month - and I set it so that DSTVNow & YouTube are both on their lowest resolution settings - 360p & 240p respectively. His normal usage is between about 500MB to about 1.5GB per day, depending on how much sport he watches on DSTVNow.

I have now also checked my remaining 80GB+80GB LTE data bundle as well - yesterday morning at around 08h00 when I checked how much was still left, it was at about 8GB remaining for normal Daytime data, with 2 sets of 10GB additional Daytime carry-over data also still available.

This morning, when I checked just now (also @ 08h00) - suddenly about 6GB has mysteriously disappeared within 24 hours...!!!

My normal usage is around 1.5GB to 2GB daily, depending on whether I am facilitating any online MS Teams online tutoring (these are usually 3 hour sessions - about 3 to 4 times a week on average) - I am using Google Chrome & I have also set DSTVNow to 360p and YouTube to 240p for daytime viewing - I only set them both to HD (1080p) if I am using Night-time data (usually in the mornings between 05h00 & 07h00).

Here are my remaining data bundles currently available:

Has anyone else also suddenly experienced a MASSIVE depletion of their remaining Daytime 'Inclusive SmartBroadband Data' bundles happening over the last 2 or 3 days as well???

“Settings” > “Data Usage” > “Cellular data usage“

Which app is using the most data?

I'm currently on a 10 + 10 GB Telkom fixed LTE package through Axxess (for R99 / month, btw).

Haven't noticed anything like this happening recently, or ever for that matter.
I've also used Telkom LTE prepaid directly, extensively in the past, and not experienced anything like this.

The only thing this last weekend, was that it took 'til Sunday night for Telkom's usage figures to be updated on Axxess' website & app., after about 2 days - this is a fairly regular occurrence, though.

I've never been led to believe massive amounts of data are depleting from that 10 + 10 package / directly through Telkom LTE, other than if I'm using it up.

Seeing as you have a contract, try reporting it to them & at the same time add in the prepaid discrepancies (as the 3 of you see them), and see if they'll do anything, but I'd doubt it.

where is mybb investigations proving Network operators Daylight robbery.
not the first time and not the last time it happens. I disconnect my LTE modem just to be sure its not doing weird stuff when I'm not around.

I had (still have) the same issue with data suddenly depleting much faster than usual towards the end of September, but in my case it specifically has to do with the DSTV phone app, that now downloads anything in ultra-high resolution (so 2GB+ file size), irrespective of the quality download you choose.

I'm also on the Telkom LTE 80GB package, but not sure if this would be Telkom specific?

You can test it by checking your available data. Check the storage space on your device. Download the movie or series in Medium or low quality, and check data & storage space again.

Im on a 15G monthly 7.5 day and 7.5G night which normally lasts around a month .
I do use You Tube but something has occurred where Iv'e suddenly used more than 50Gigs since Sunday .
I replenished Monday and yesterday and found its depleted this morning . Something is very wrong

I'm about 1 to 2 weeks into the same one, as a temp. backup to fibre.

Haven't switched it (the router the SIMs in) on since I needed it for a while, the day I set it up.

Will do so and update this afternoon, if I don't forget.

At most I used a few hundred Megabytes, because fibre came back to life not long after buying the 15GB Telkom.

Great necro there - I had totally forgotten I created this thread back in 2021 when I had the 80GB + 80GB LTE data bundle.

In the interim, Ihave upgraded to the 120GB + 120GB data bundle, but this one seems to be OK - no data loss - I actually use less than the limit every month, and even have a spare 120GB daytime data recurring monthly carryover as a bonus if I ever do go over my cap.
