Moody's upgrade boosts SA govt

Moody's upgrading of South Africa's Baa1 foreign currency rating to A3 shows understanding that the government is committed to a "very sound approach" to fiscal policy, Finance Minister Pravin Gordhan said on Thursday.

Gordhan told Reuters in an interview the government would ensure policy consistency, but that the global economic crisis, which has left South Africa in recession, might require "extraordinary responses".

This is good news. These rating agencies are typically unapologetic towards political pressures and the like, and an upgrade means that Government is doing something right.

Yes I agree with you. One of the biggest rating agencies in the world is taking money from a small financial power player like SA so investors in the big power player countries can throw their money in here and lose it all.

How is this country failing? Moody's upgraded us because we doing something right, during this recession, every single country has been downgraded or stayed the same. Only 3 countries were upgraded, Chile, China, and us.

Not to mention being on the same grading as countries like Malaysia and just a notch behind a country like south korea.
