Moosedrool’s Roller Coaster thread

That was an insane rendering. It felt like I was on it. I love the negative G then low across the water. :-) :-)

Truly amazing part, that. Moosedrool took us for a ride and we enjoyed it.

Sorry, I missed the reply's. :(

Moosedrool, how is your roller coaster project progressing?

Funny you should ask cause I was anxiously awaiting the release of version 2 before continuing some of the other projects including the resident evil themed one.

Bought it within an hour it was released and started putting this baby together:

I <3 B&M dive machines. They're huge monsters!

Jut look at the pure epicness...

Yay, you've started already! Looking good so far.

Whoa, that monster is huge. Will the water effect be a challenge?

Thanks man. :)

It's Kevin's script (one of the developers) It is hard cuase it launches hundreds of particles into the air but none the less I will need to amend this thing a bit cuase it looks a tad 2001 lol.

The new version allows for all kinds of self defined script events with either triggers such as these or even time triggers and so forth.

3ds animation.
volumetric lighting.
Particle effects.

It's pretty much a sandbox engine that now looks like source. Only, here we build these things and they work properly.

I tried animation directly in max along one of these things to export into other engines with horrific results. Nl has that missing physics accuratly programmed into the sim.

Whoa, sounds like a lot of hard work. Do you market your products or is it just for the enjoyment only?

No, it's just for the fun. We share tracks and stuff online but this is isn't really engineering. Concept design but not mechanical engineering.

Years ago a couple of enthusiasts including myself participated in a competitive design off for Inmotion. Inmotion built motion simulators for all sorts of purposes including theme parks and they looked at the coaster community for rides. http://www.inmotionsimulation.com Unfortunately for us crazy realistic people, what they wanted isn't really what we do aka: Beyond gigantic and unrealistic. I left the comp to see a guy winning that built a mine train coaster hitting 250 km/h lel.

If you listened to the pod cast I posted earlier you'll understand how NL and NL2 get's used in the industry as presentation software. The fun thing about it is that it is creative in more aspects than just understanding and building roller coasters. Newtonian physics is like second nature to me since I started with calculative Vector design thanks to this thing. Also I gained a large amount of experience in 3D graphic design with 3ds max and free apps such as blender. You can port tracks out of the sim into 3ds and so forth then render in super high quality etc... It's pretty neat cause whatever you build here is not limited to the app but can be ported to other games, CG rendering or even put it on top of the anaconda on google earth.

But yeah, like I said, animating the movement realistically in max is a bitch. I'm waiting for someone to finally build a nice physics template for such things.

Anywho, progress so far:

Bump again cause it’s what I do.

So I’ve been frekin busy lately and had 0 time to actually work on stuff for the past year, after a crappy breakup I’ve finally got some time on my hands to build thingies.

I’m also one of those people that halfway through a project gets another idea and it’s killing me here. But I did finish a ride though except for the video editing and crap that still needs to be done before it’s finalized.

I’m also amped for Ole telling us that this thing will be getting Oculus rift support for real time rendering. It’s gonna be completely nuts!

Here’s Echo Canyon:

As you can see it’s a major improvement from the old. One of the main features I nagged about since 2004 was the shadows and they kinda over did it this time. :)

I’m still busy with the dive machine and have added some untextured scenery:

Ok, correction I built a scenery thing. But just look at the beautiful landscape of steel looking out of the windows of this restaurant. :D

I am busy with a couple of rides including this recreation we all know:

To get the scale accurate:

Google earth lel.

Also a new Rocky Mountain style hybrid coaster with a similar layout to that of Hades in Mt. Olympus. And all the projects posted earlier in this thread with the new improved sim. I’m also finally going on holiday after 2 years this December and is hoping to get some stuff done even while I’m away.

Another thing is there is a big competition on the horizon for a motion simulator company again that wants some stuff. I’ll attempt it again this time but we haven’t received any details yet. After the first contest for In-motion I now understand what these guys are after and during this I might scout around for 3D modelling experts and animators depending on what exactly the winnings will entitle.
