More blacks consider emigration

THe 38% seems a little far fetched to me. I would need to see the question sthey asked. Perhaps 38% said they would like to go overseas, not emigrate!

I do know a few black well educated professionals who are looking to emigrate. One of them was stabbed in an unprovoked attack in C/Town. The reality is that a large number of blacks are being educated in former model C schools/private schools and end up with similar values than the white folk. Isee that as a positive. They would/should also have aspirations to travel, have a better lifestyle etc.

Your opinion I guess. However, what do you call white values?

Values is maybe not the correct term and I did not mean they were white values, maybe new values. I can only speak from my experiences. The schools are mixed and the kids(generaly) play sport together, socialise together have the same educational input and influences. After school in the work place there is similar interactions. Perhaps I am describing the coconut effect! There will remain some differences but they would in general aspire for similar needs. Such as security, travel etc.

Sounds more like class values than race values.

I don't think that poll can be representative of the general population. If they polled 2500
statistically that's an insignificant figure, it would be even more insignificant if it were taken from well educated middle class people. However what this figure does say, is that there is a significant amount of middle class blacks in the regions polled who are
contemplating leaving. I can believe that. People always want to get to greener
pastures and you can't blame them. SA is rapidly becoming a 3rd world country
across the board and the more educated blacks are also sick of it. The less educated
blacks are living below the poverty line so I doubt they were polled and if
given all the info - if given the option of remaining poor or going elsewhere to
become richer - I'm sure most would choose option 2. However this does not mean that
38% of Khayalitsha dreams of emigration.

It's true. But it is a MYTH that it "those values" that make one want to leave. I've made friends with people who are literally poor and in the townships, and though they would only admit it seldom and uncomfortably, it is clear that they KNOW, they really KNOW that things are very bad for them, and would love to leave, but it's so hurtful to even think about because they know that their situation is so hopeless that they are not going anywhere and just have to make the best of it. Sure they try enjoy life and put on a happy face, but they are damn fed up with being subject to violence and attacks. But it is VERY difficult for a black person to admit that openly, especially given the historical context (they now have the black government they wanted and life still sucks - u know how hard that is to admit) - so to dlk etc. don't think you know what a person feels just because they haven't told you their thoughts on it - the reasons they DON'T leave are myriad, and I listed them, but it doesn't mean they have no inner desire to or never consider it.

I mean if it's "model C values" (aka white values) that are "for emigration", why does half of Africa want to get out of their own sh-tholes and into SA and elsewhere ... yeah blacks never think of leaving, ya right, what a racist viewpoint. Blacks exhibit rational behaviour too, and wanting to move away from a dangerous hell-life of poverty and suffering (to places with more jobs and opportunities and money) is as rational as it gets. You don't need to be "model C educated" to realise that, you people must think blacks are so dumb they need a white education just to realise they are in danger or that life could be better somewhere else! (Why do you think so many blacks of all ethnicities came to Gauteng in the first place? What would you call that? It's the same thing. Human migration is natural - to all humans.)

I don't think you people even know anyone from townships very well at all. As in, really know.

I do not know of a single black professional that is considering immigration at this stage. I know about 10 white professionals who have emigrated to Canada and Australia in last 2 years. I know 2 colored people who have emigrated to Canada.

I actually know one or two. But they don't want to leave cause they're worried of the future here. They just want to earn euros :D

- so Turtle, don't think because you have made friends with poor and in the township people, you now know reasons Black people don't leave.

Congrads on your making friends with poor and in the townships people. I've also made friends with the rich and suburb people.

How about disputing the reasons I gave instead of ad hominem attacks, thanks (as if u even know much about my relationships with black people anyway).

Ag, I give in, you're right, blacks love getting shot and attacked and it never occurs to them that they could avoid it by moving somewhere safer (in spite of the fact that blacks have been voluntarily migrating for centuries).

It was unsurprisingly easy to give in.

Here in Seattle, I have heard one black lady speak Zulu, and I am on the same bus with a black guy, called Timothy Khumalo. I saw his name on his company access card, so i think he might be from SA, as Khumalo is SA?

Most likely yes (though it could be from one of the neighbouring countries, this is less likely though).

I know (and know of) quite a few SAn blacks who have left for places like the UK and US and have no intention of coming back.

That article was about people who would emigrate given the opportunity - not those who could afford to emigrate...

From the article: "Also, 78% of white South Africans believed one should learn a black language." ... lol, so then why the hell DON'T they? Or do they just believe that "other people" should learn black languages? What hypocrisy.

I have no intention of learning a 'black' language.

I'd much rather the SABC presenters learn English.
