More cable slack

To what extent are they going to try and enforce this? Also would there be any real change to management of the cable if it was incorporated into the Nepad project, I assume there is a reason...

Well good news for Seacom anyway, start laying the cables. :D

Weird, you'd think that the governments huge stake in telkom could be able to force price cuts...

Besides, it's only south africa companies that rip people off, let the foreigners come and show us how real competition is
 
i think that their "national security" and to stop exploitation excuse holds no water. if they want to ensure this all they have to do is lay their own cable and keep the prices low. this will force commercial companies to keep their prices low as well.

2010, 2020 and 2030 roll towards us, and our wonderful government is hoping to issue a draft document in a couple of months time. WTF have they been doing up until now? There has been plenty of time to get the policy on cable landing sorted out already. Its not a huge surprise that they are going to land here...

There is a desperate need for our elected leaders to start leading. Leading means making decisions that commit money and time to projects, decisions that actually make something happen. All I see are decisions to postpone making real decisions. 'We need more time to understand all the details'. Once enough time has passed there is no longer any need to make a decision... And all the while huge amounts of money are being spent in the not deciding process; money which could have been spent actually doing the work had the decision been make quickly.

Lets just get on with it... please
 
Seacom should just go ahead and lay the bloody thing during the night and STFU about it. Then when the cable is here, not even the DoC can say anything. Plus it'll probably go 2x fast if the DoC does not know anything about it.
