More competition needed, says minister

ICASA need to focus on 3 things right now:
1. LLU
2. Interconnect agreements between ALL operators
3. Enforcing licence agreements

To really stimulate competition the government must sell all its shares in MTN, Telkom and Vodacom, etc. held directly or indirectly via the PIC.

Currently it has too much of a vested interest in the telecoms market. Directly via being a shareholder and indirectly via their pension fund investments through the PIC.

Infraco must either be sold off to the highest bidder or be listed as a private company in the mould of Dark Fibre Africa, with zero government control or vested interest.

You have quite an extensive wish list. But, I do agree that if we can manage this, then costs will definitely drop.
