On the flip side of this coin is your position as a manager where performance reviews come around and the guys who have years under the belt just expect default promotions while not having done any different really.I think it is ok tbh. Just not the be all and end all.
Meanwhile you have a kid (literally by comparison) who is pumping out work and highly motivated ups killing to high heaven and you struggle to promote them because of red tape saying they haven't been in the position long enough...which then leads to the risk of losing them.
And then you end up with the first hanging around forever and doing nothing new, while churning more junior folks who could have done a better job for less money (while deserving more).
