Cape Town Builds wall to hide poor

About 30 people took over a derelict building on the edge of Athlone Stadium’s parking lot seven years ago.

But now they are in the way of the city council plans to extend the parking lot of the stadium – which will be used as a football practice ground during the World Cup.

The city had previously applied to the courts to evict the people living there so that it could demolish the building and extend the parking lot. But the court ruled against the city, saying it should first find alternative accommodation.

A spokesperson for the group, Luwellyn Wilters, told Sowetan that they had been informed that the city would now build a wall around them.

Where's the DA fanboys? The DA trying to hide their incompetence once again.

Can't provide housing and TOILETS, now their trying to hide it.

This says it all .. what right does anyone have to "take over" a building, even if it was unused at the time? They were rightly evicted (and should have been thrown in jail) and the authorities put them in free accommodation elsewhere. Granted, not 5-star accommodation, but did those "poor" folk pay anything for it? No, they got roofs over their heads for free and mahala. You have missed the plot here.

They are trying to evict people that are illegally occupying a building. I must admit that taking 7 years to react on it is a bit long, but then I don't think the DA was in control back then.

The ANC have done this numerous times in Johannesburg, yet you have not criticized them?
