Heck. You wish it was kittens. Back when I was a kid we had family farming in the Nkwaleni Valley in Natal. They told us that some local black kids had this great idea for a game. They'd find a carboard box at the rubbish dump, and then hide inside it in the center of the road. Only after the third hit-and-run involving a sugarcane truck and a kid in a box did the police figure out what was happening.

They haven't gotten that bright yet, but they have done that at substations. There's no evidence afterwards, if you discount the bits of ash floating around.

In future that is what we will have to do - avoid objects in the road, travel by day etc...

I remember they warned us about the detonator/trigger tube for a limpet. It looked like a long test tube and kids/people used to hold it in your hand thinking it was safe as being a separate part of the mine. However, it had ample explosive force by itself to take your hand off.

Lol. No, not really.
Did I tell you about the artillery shells I have at home? Don't worry though - they've been shot, so it's only the shells and the spent primers. Perfectly legal to own.

You don't have to tell me. Our one plant in Rustenburg assembles electronic detonators used in mining. A few months ago they had a incident.
One of the staff was fitting the small explosive charge into its plastic container. To do this she was working with her arms inside a special armored box while wearing chainmail gloves. The only part of her that was exposed was her fingers.
So she'd fit the casing into one side of the crimper, then roll the charge off a special shelf on to the other side, and pull two levers that would slide the charge into the case and crimp its edges closed.
One charge would not fit, and instead of calling her supervisor, she PICKED it up and tried to push it in manually. :wtf:
The one reason for the casing is to insulate the charge from heat. Even body-heat.:eek:

The plant now has a new member of the cleaning staff. As soon as she figures out how to use a broom with only 7 fingers.

BOMB UNIT DISPOSES OF WWII EXPLOSIVES

The police bomb disposal unit removed 15 World War II explosive devices from a scrap yard in Pretoria West after one killed a man there on Monday morning, Gauteng police said.

Of the 15 old military incendiary devices found at the site in Rebecca Street, six were found to be live, Captain Tsekiso Mofokeng said.

Between 8am and 9am on Monday, a man was killed and another was seriously injured when one of the devices exploded at the scrap yard.

It was not immediately clear whether the men were employed at the scrap yard. Mofokeng said that preliminary investigations indicated the explosion was an accident.

"At the moment we have opened an inquest."

It was not known how the antiquated military ordnance came to be at the scrap yard.

"We are appealing to the community to tell us where they came from," Mofokeng said.

Streets around the scrap yard had been closed off, but were reopened by early afternoon.
