Most affordable, capable 4X4 vehicle

Hey guys, (girls)

I recently went to Ponta Malongane, Mozambique.
I noticed how there was not a single small car on those 'roads'

The smallest car I saw was a Suzuki Jimmi.

I would like to buy a car/bakkie/suv that can handle that sort of terrain, but I am on a budget.

My budget is R100 000 - R150 000
It will obviously have to be second hand,
It must be 4X4
Luxury is not important
Must be able to be fixed without needing a qualified mechanic

Does anyone have any experience in that sort of terrain with a vehicle?

Any suggestions are welcomed.

Landrover Discovery
The V8's are rock solid and very capable offroad.
Best would be a Disco 2 TD5, but they are kinda hard to find.

If Luxury or speed is not a issue look at a old Series III land rover

Edit : Oh, i have to mention the Toyota Cruiser. They are also good, but still very expensive and difficult to find.
and a +1 on the jimmy. Small but capable.

Depends on how you determine qualified If you mean without a Subaru service centre, then yes. If you're buying a second hand car it's always good to find someone reputable to look after it unless you want to take on the repairs yourself. I've paid those school fees on my old Jetta mk2.

Yes I have heard that, but then you get ones that use fuel like a 4X4 and ones that use fuel like rocket ships!

I like those as well. they look fully capable of any terrain!

Yes that thing is awesome... I saw many of them up in Mozambique. Not one looked like it was struggling.
Although I am sure it drinks diesel!

A fully loaded 110 will get around 11l/100km depending on your right foot. Most Tdi owners keep it to 110kmh or so. A spare on the bonnet also decreases overall consumption.

Expect 10km/l on open road. That's pretty economical for a 2ton vehicle the shape of a brick

you can pick these up for good prices.

I think it is a winner, in my opinion it is much more capable than a jimny!
That is just what I think I could be wrong though!
