I was after a Jetta... When I bought, a similar mileage Jetta 1.4TSI DSG Comfortline, cost R10k more than my Passat, which has a bigger engine, a humongous boot and loads of extra features, even in base spec.

That's fascinating, wouldn't have expected that. Guess VW is desperate to move the Passat stock, and it's just a perception issue.

I love that Passat starter button ... it is engineered to perfection. The analogue clock, however, is pushing it a bit far.

...and it comes with a full maintenance plan.

Whatever VW is paying you, it ain't enough :p

Seriously though I keep looking at sedans, and the only thing that stops me from buying one is I want an SUV rather, and all the SUVs that are worth having are well north of R360 000. So the two just cancel each other out, as I enjoy nipping into tight parking spots in my hatchback lol.

Did the research a year ago. Things haven't changed much, though prices have gone up a little. I drove low-ish mileage C180, 316 and A4 1.8T. Just felt I got way more in my budget, which was around R250k at the time, going for that Passat with 18000km on the clock. If I had a higher budget however, it would have been something else.

Had a capable crossover SUV before the Passat. Loved it... but over it.
