Most Effective Anti Virus

SEP is bloody expensive. When comparing to other offerings I would definitely not pay those prices. Almost 45K for 150 user license  That said, I also hate its updater and how it is dustributed. A real gat kramp.

AVG + threatfire

Both great for prevention, Threatfire work well evrn If you havn't updated in ages

AVG always get the job done for removal
And It lets you allow things it may think are viruses

If you want your computer to run like a Pentium one install symantic, if you want to crash it, don't pay and update, then symantic will send you viruses for free :D

i always thought bitdefender was the best, but after installing avast and some other anti virus i found many viruses on my pc. is there any antivirus that completely secures a pc? there is always going to be a virus that out smarts a latest antivirus

At times them "viruses" that are picked up are in fact false-positives, files that cause no harm but are found to be viruses. An anti-virus that completly secures your pc...? Unfortunately not, but use Mircrosoft Security Essentials as it is new, free, packs a punch and it's one of the best anti-viruses right now.

If you are a tech, first thing to disable is autorun on all drives, including USB. Never double click a flash drive, right click and explore or run drive letter: start, run.

.

Autorun was disabled by default in an update MS pushed out quite a few months back. So if you are a tech... Make sure to update the OS as well and dont use iTunes(read story below about Apple security).

Howto protect your flash drive
Found this a while back, sorry no link.

In the command prompt create a hidden autorun directory and change its attributes thereby rendering autorun useless to any virii that use the technique.

(U is your usb drive letter)
mkdir U:\autorun.inf
attrib +a +s +r +h U:\autorun.inf

Anyone got more hints please feel free to add them.

I have one, Said it numerous times on these forums.

Don't give your day-to-day user account administrator privileges.

The latest Norton products seems to be getting the highest ratings...

"anti-virus is like religion, we all have our own"

I've tried them all and I've found faults in all of them.

What fault have you found with Avast???

Avast has a preboot scan. Something that not many Antivirus programs have.

Just remember all AVs become redundent if not upgraded regularly.

And Never alow a virus becuse you want to use the infected program, because next thing you are reinstalling windows  :(

Norton, 4 years on and no problem (quickly touches some wood!!).
