Most Effective Anti Virus

Kaskpersky is the only AV I recomend for commercial use; really awesome for the price (R11 000 for 75 users and a server for one year, or R4500 for 15 PCs and a server for two years were the last prices I quoted).

Avast for home use....
 
Honest opinion, Kaspersky.

Tried them all over the years and some have performed better than others during certains periods in time. It's in my experience that I say Kaspersky is the winner atm although I don't use an AV on my home machine.. ever.
 
There's only one for me, Avast. Fast, free and effective. After AVG and Norton, I simply won't move back.
 
Avira. It's awesome. Free and found over 80 viruses. Used them for over 2 years now and never a problem.

Check the History tab, near the end it should give you a link about the virus

AVG saved my @ss from something like win32.virate :D
 
ummm, i got a question? whats the point of having an anti virus program???? i've been using my pc for over a year now with no problems and i'm on the net 24/7, before that i had bit defender and got so much **** that i had to format every 2 to 4 weeks... but now only once in a blue moon... no file problems ever and no problems on my friend's pc's...........
 
I use AVG Pro (paid edition) on my Vista notebook. Havent had any problems for the last year, but viruses are a constant worry with a Windows pc.

I also swear by Avira. Problem is I loaded it onto a mates old laptop where Norton expired and it seems to slow down the laptop, there is just to much disk i/o when I open programs etc and things get horribly slow. Granted, it could also be related to his Windows install. Think I'm gonna give Avast a try on his laptop to see if things speed up.
 
Any comments on this option for flashdrives? It's a utility called Usb Write Protector ....

USB Write Protector is a portable utilities which can write-protect your USB flash drive so that virus/spyware can’t copy itself to the drive.
The main cause of viruses are USB flash drive. These viruses tend to copy themselves to the flash drive whenever system detected new device plug in. I still remember there are some old USB drives that come with write protect feature. But unfortunately most of the new flash drive don’t come with such feature, maybe the manufacturers want to cut down the cost?
So, the only way to protect our USB flash drive is enable the write protect through our own PC. With USB Write Protector, you can turn on/off the write protect to a USB flash drive.

Open this application before you plug any flash drive into your computer. After you turn on the write protection, you will not be able to write any files to the flash drive, or delete any files from it. You must always unplug and plug your flash drive if you want to turn on/off the write protection.
Note: This utilities will not write any files to your flash drive, it just make sure your flash drive is write protected in this computer only. So, when you plug the flash drive into another PC, your flash drive may still infected by viruses. So, the best way to protect your flash drive is to install this application to all computers that you may use.
