Hi guys,

I have been doing some research on the reliability of cars so I thought if we could list the cars that we think are or have proven that they are reliable.

I think we can focus on cars that are +3 years old across the range i.e. small - SUV. This could help someone out there. Your opinion on any of the cars listed by any member is welcome:

Okay here goes (will leave some for you)

BMW e46
Honda Accord
Jetta 5
Toyota Avensis

Hmmm, I think that neither of those would be on a most reliable list... but I could be wrong :)

Would more likely go with the Honda Jazz.

This has been the subject of extensive research in the UK, Germany and the US. Generally, Japanese cars rate at the top, Mazda having had first place for more than 10 years. BMW and Ford rated quite highly, in the top 10.

At the bottom were Range Rover and certain East European makes, followed by Renault

Warranty Direct did the most recent research. They didn't give any details on the findings, so I'll be sceptical until I see a breakdown of warranty claims.

You see golf 1's that are ancient all over SA and they're very easy to re-sell how is that the least reliable - please explain?

Coz I see them on the side of the road all the time.

I never see any of the Korean makes in any of the reliability lists etc. They can't be that bad if they are wiling to give out 5 year warranties, can they?

They're not reliable at all. They're just cheap to fix.
