What top end Android smartphone can be compared with Lumia 1520 and iPhone 5S?

Reliable in terms of hardware build quality

Reliable in terms of signal quality

Reliable in terms of software stability

Comment from a young adult who meets lots of other young ones is that he will never buy a Samsung S5 or K Zoom, as there are 'unreliable'.

What is truth and what is biased perception?

Build quality is subjective to the user, some prefer metal over plastic.

I had a whole score of Nokias, all made of plastic except 3210, all unbreakable. But also reliability of the inner components, as that also relates to build quality. One Nokia needed a new charging block after many years and the brand new iPhone 5 needed a new power button within a few months. Think of keypad (if not full touch) and other components that do fail - what do users experience?

Blackberry - I steered clear because many reported hardware failure. So I nought a dirt cheap interim phone, a Huawei Y300, that performs surprisingly well for a below R1k phone and better than the previous phone that had cost 11x that much. And it is made of flimsy plastic, definitely not Nokia quality. But it works! :D

I've bought and played around with the y220 & for the price it's an excellent phone.

The Zest T1 smartphone is great value. Got one from Afrihost for my mom and it's performed well for the price.

Samsung S4 and S4 mini and xcover 2

No problem with them. Fell a few times , and still no problem. X cover battery chg cover tear off. This phone is know not water proof.

Not sure how you can relate reliability without longevity tests (and that includes the phones you mention). However, I can say my note 1 is superb...
:p

What phone that cost 11 times as much as the Y300 and what was wrong with it.

My s5 is reliable and meets or exceeds everything you mentioned, great build quality and all that as well.

Perhaps the young adult is stuck in apples environment or possibly just dissing something he can not afford or figure out how to use.

I found often in the motoring world, they got a car for one day and fall in love with it.

Often cellphone reviews are the same.

All the new stuff will come more plastic like , lighter and just click together.

iPhone 5. Please don't let me relive the pain by telling you about it.............................go look at user reports on Apple's own support forum, Macrumours, etc.

Reliability means longevity where I hail from, call it dependable endurance. My old Mercs did 700,000+ km with little fuss, my Nokias lasted for years without breaking, except the last E5 that was a software conundrum.

Perhaps, AstruTurf, your asumption is so very spot-on! :D

Been thinking of getting the Y300 as a secondary emergency phone. Had my doubts coz of the price, so you say it performs well huh? Obviously in the context of its price range.

The ONLY thing it does worse than my former iPhone 5 is the screen clarity in broad sunlight. Otherwise, it is a BETTER phone in almost every respect, even with cheap plastics and all. It does not break inside when it falls, either.
