I asked for a quote of the following and asked if she could keep it to under R8,000.00 - which she couldn't :

ASUS Intel P45, LGA775, 1600FSB, 4xDual DDR2 1200, 1x PCI-x16 , 2xPCI-x1, 3xPCI, 1xATA133, 6xSATAII, 2x eSATA, Gbe Lan, 8ch-Sound, Max 12xUSB, 2x IEEE1394, ATX
Core 2 Quad Q9300 2.5Ghz (1333FSB 6MB)
2GB DDRII-1066 Hyper X (Kingston)
2GB DDRII-1066 Hyper X (Kingston)
250GB-7200RPM 8MB Cache
Geforce 9500GT 512MB-DDR2 DVI TV-Out - Inno3D
Midi Tower Case + 350W PSU - Coolermaster - Elite Cool

She decided to cut back on the MB by giving me a cheap one (don't even know what it is ...) and giving me 800mhz memory. Also adding a 500w powersupply as 350w is too small.

Is a MB a big difference? Should I perhaps get the better MB - and cut on the chip?

I am not sure about this but most of suppliers for some odd reason have the q9300 at around the same price as a q9550

You gonna do gaming on this pc? I would leave this card and get a better mobo and look in the classifieds for something cheap. Saw a 7800gt there. :D

Nope. No gaming ... just general email, email, browsing, media stuff etc etc I just wanted a card for Vista Aero, videos etc etc

Dunno what that means - but ok ;)

Depends on what you wanna do with the board.

What will the pc be used for?

350Watts wouldn't be enough.

Btw for the same price as the 9500GT you should be able to get a 4670 or 4650. Both outperform the 9500GT by far.

It doesn't matter then. You won't see the difference. Just check what the onboard soundcard for the motherboard is. As most people at some point watch dvds on a pc.

Not sure about the MOBO but the quad proc seems overkill. I mentioned this before but I have a customer who runs 60-80 Citrix users on a single quad server and the processor is idle most of the time.... Just seems like a lot of money for a processor that may never be used to its full potential....

If q9300 = X. Then q9550 = +-X According to killadoob haha.
q9550 is a beta cpu than q9300 so why not get the q9550 is the general idea.

Yea but seriously why are you looking 2000 rand cpu's for office work?

Look at a cheap dual core rather than blow money on such an expensive cpu.

Hmmmm... the best Idea will be to build a pc that will run win 7 perfectly with one arm behind its back. Then you should be covered for a couple of years.
Anyone want to give the specs for such a pc?
