Hey guys, so me and my bud built up my pc on friday night Asus p8z68 v pro/gen3 motherboard, 4gb Corsair vengeance 4gb 1600mhz, i5 2500k with coolermaster tx3 for now, and a 1tb WD 64mb cache hdd, using onboard gfx.

One mistake we didnt look out for was plugging in the usb header into the firewire port, the header was for the top two usb ports of my coolermaster elite 430 case, we booted the pc put windows and then once we tested out the top usb ports the pc shut off, the usb device was my blackberry 9780 so now we figured my blackberry's port is fried, it doesnt charge so i know that, my very main concern is that will my motherboard be okay ? all the ports do work now & i dont seem to be having any problems except the pc just froze as i was writing this post.. : /

Any help will be appreciated

Many Thanks

Reading the manual would be a great idea

Having usb probs is always a crap situation

I accidentally did the same with my Asus P7H55D-M Evo motherboard when I was in a hurry to install a new CPU cooler.

I've written off my (cheap Microsoft) mouse and flash drive when I plugged it in the wrongfully connected USB plugs. Luckily I didn't test any other devices in it. When I made this mistake, all I saw was that the mouse wasn't functioning any more, but my PC didn't freeze/shut down.

I simply swapped the Firewire & USB connectors and everything (except for my mouse & flash drive of course) worked 100% afterwards.

the pc just froze as i was writing this post

What does the event log say is hanging/crashed? What are your CPU temperatures like (is the TX3 sitting correctly)? What power supply are you running?

Thanx Pada well yeah my blackberry is definately written off the board seems to be working fine, i thought that if the firewire shot the 12 volt in my bb, i doubt it would resist back to the board? Howard, i havent checked the event log, im quite noob with it to be honest, how would be the best way to see crashes etc ? my cpu temps are sitting at 20-22 on idle , 25 - 30 on load
the tx3 seems to be sitting fine & im using a corsair cx600 powersupply

The temps look good, so I doubt it's an overheating issue - the PSU seems fine to handle those specs.

If running Win7, launch Event Viewer by clicking the Start button, type Event in the Start Search box, and Event Viewer should appear at the top of the results display (you may have to press enter once to populate the list). However, you can also open the Control Panel, access the System and Security category, select the Administrative Tools item, and double-click the Event Viewer icon.

Check through the System Logs and the Application Logs and see if there is anything untoward that jumps out - yellow exclamation marks (usually for noting only), red stop exclamations (potentially more serious issues), etc that would have occurred around the times you had the freeze.

EDIT - didn't see your screenshot above - wouldn't load ;)

thanx howard the only thing i found was in the event viewer local under errors and warnings, this was yesterday before i installed my sata 6g western digital caviar black
