Busy ordering me parts to built me a newish computer....

Local supplier sent me quotes , MB is ASUS MB SI ONLY, H97, 1150, MATX .

Pray tell , refresh my mind, What is SI ONLY alluding to here?

Does anyone else have this MB, any good?

I thank thee in advance....

:)

That;s all that came on the quote, " ASUS MB SI ONLY, H97, 1150, MATX " for just shy of 2 grand.... I also ordered an i5 Intel CPU with it.....

Socket 1150 is already 2 generations old, I probably wouldn't recommend that unless you're going for something very specific.

You should post everything that you want to order and pricing as well as the kind of work you'll be doing on it (e.g do you want it for gaming or just office work, etc).

"SI Only" = supports Intel only? I'm just guessing...never seen that before but maybe the folks out there like to be uber-clear.

It looks like it is part of the model number as in ASUS H97M-E/CSM/SI*

Tell him to send you a new quote with the FULL details/model numbers for all the components. You can't compare apples to apples if you don't have the full details.

Like most people you probably don't need a R2k MB, R1K-1.2K will do the job for most people.

It's pretty common practice for some shops to obfuscate their products like that so you can't shop around.

As was suggested, post what you want to do and your budget here and the good folks of MyBB will get you the best deal. Otherwise, ask for the FULL specs.

+1

They don't wan't you to compare prices which probably means they are ripping you off.

Okies! Thanks for the feedback...

My current main PC is an old beast that does not support SSD , I cannot run games from the last 3 years on it, as the HW is too old...

So the main reason of the upgrade is to catch up and be able to run W10, my SSD and a few games, no big Gaming, a couple of low end games for the kid......

Due to the fact I live in the middle of the desert, it is difficult to source PC parts or at least it takes time.

My mate happens to own the local IT store here, and gives me relatively good pricing, mainly due to the fact that our business sources a ton of stuff from him.

The reason i like to buy local, if there is a failure in the product, I can walk out the front door, cross the road and return the problem to him.

I also have a budget from the English HO, so spending 8000 , I have to squeeze in the best that I can get...

In this case , an i5 Core, The motherboard, 16 GB DDR3 RAM and a PSU, the rest I have laying around here...

I was also in a rush, as I have an alcohol free weekend approaching and need a hobby......

Thanks again!

Still don't know what The SI ONLY alludes to, will take a walk across the street later and ask for an explanation....

:D

If your motherboard is 3 years old you can definitely run an SSD on it. All it needs is a Sata port. Sata 1 will be slightly slower though

If it has Sata SSD should work. I have a Samsung 750 Evo 256GB happily running in my socket775 media center.
