I am on a limited budget and looking for a decent motherboard to go with the Intel Pentium E5200 dual core chip. What would u guys recommend. I've been told the ECS G31 T-M is quite good. Value your opinion.

Thx

It is quite a nice entry level board but it is as basic as they come ,if you plan to oc DO NOT get this board other than that if u on a budget of R500 this is the board to get.

haha this is *** funny

I went into a certain dealer price list and was looking at the asus boards... I click on the hyperlink for a specific ASUS product and it take me to a MSI webpage! :D

what about the ASUS P5QL-SE, its their new entry lvl board. About r1000

the ASUS P5QL-SE look ok, but only 2 ram slots. (i should have mention 4x, heh well its updated now)

Gigabyte G31 Motherboard -> the GA-G31-S3L ?

funny kind of warning
* Because of chipset limitations, do not populate both DIMM sockets of the same channel (e.g. DDRII1 and DDRII2), or populate 4 DIMM sockets with double-sided memory modules to prevent system's failure to start or incorrect detection of memory modules. Please refer to the user manual for the memory configurations table.

* Because of chipset limitations, when using FSB 1333 MHz CPU with populating all DIMM sockets, memory frequency will be reduced from the original, and system instability or incorrect detection of memory module may be occur.
Please refer "Memory Support List" for memory support information.

If you're not looking to overclock, take a look at the Intel IceDale G45.

just standard, this is going to be a "interm" board replacement before the next big upgrade.

Any G31-based board will be fine if you're not overclocking. You're mainly just limited to 2 RAM slots and 4 SATA ports with the G31 chip set.

E5200s + G31s sell like hotcakes.

How about this?

intel P43TF TopsField ; intel Quad-core / Core2 / Core2-extreme / Pentium D / Celeron-L (800fsb) , 1333/1066/800fsb , intel P43 + iCH10 chipset , 4x dual channel DDR2 800 , 6 x s-ata2 , 1 x parallel ata133 ; on-board gigabit lan + ieee1394a + realtek ALC888VC 5.1 audio ; 3x pci, 3 x pci-e(1x), 1 x pci-e 2.0 (16x) , atx , no PS2 - bulk pack

if you know someone who's an axiz dealer you can grab a reconditioned board for about 150-300 bucks. Some pretty higher end boards too actually...

It's nice for exactly what you're looking for - a board for a while till you upgrade...

anyway for your needs eg...
ASUSM-P5K-VM ASUS Intel G33, LGA775, 1333FSB, 4xDual DDR2 800, 1x PCI-x16, On Board VGA, 1xPCI-x4, 2xPCI, 1xATA133, 4xSATAII, Gbe Lan, 8ch-Sound, Max 12xUSB, 2xIEEE1394, Micro ATX

going for R150ex

important thing is it comes with nothing but the board - so no backplane, no cables, no cd and a 7day return/refund. Thats at axiz jo'burg - not sure if any of the others are doing this as well.

Edit: they're apparently reconned by Asus. I've used 2 so far, stress tested them in the first week and they've been fine

The G31 boards, is a good choice. You can even oc a little, take a e5200 up to 3Ghz. Limited expandability though, if you put a double slot vga card in, there is only one pci slot available. The board also does not have pci-express x1 slots(the small one, not the pci-express graphics).

u guys hve lost me here- i am not a techno fundi - so seems i should go with the ecs board

thx

arg i can't decide

Asus P5QL PRO IP43

or

GA-EP43-US3L

only downside i can see for the Asus P5QL PRO IP43 is the odd placement of the atx power connector together with the front panel connectors.
