Hey

I was just thinking; Would it be possible to insert a motion charger type device into a mouse? With all the flicking of the wrists that goes on, wouldn't it be great if you could harness this motion energy and constantly charge your mouse? I'm sure you would need to store this energy in a capacitor rather than a battery, but when you sit down at your desk after a long period of non use, you just shake it around a bit and you are back in the game again? The unit may also negate the need to put weights into the mouse to make it feel more solid which seems to be common practice these days.

Thoughts?

Imagine that, one visit to xxx.com and with all the flicking of your wrist you would have enough charge for 2 years. :D

Interesting idea though.

How about just a wind-up mouse?

Ha ha! Yea, you could plug that energy into the grid and become a micro seller!

But, even if it were one of those old school type wind-up coils that you used in your toys cars when you were a kid. Just pull back a few times on the mouse, and it should be good for a little while. Can even have a little led or vibration that alerts you to the fact that you are running out of juice

Wind-Up mouse - there is now even a name for the product ;)

Math's doesn't work for a decent mouse. Piezoelectric systems produce only a tad of energy. Simple optical mice should work, but gaming mice with dpi's over 1200 wouldn't get enough energy to operate fully. Never mind wireless mice :D

Cool idea though :p

Meh, howz about motion charged shoes?
You then plug them into whichever device needs the electricity after going for a walk.
e.g. Freaking flat cell phone.

Great minds think alike, had a similar notion a little while ago, but after a bit of research I found the following.

1.)Too little energy would be produced to fully charge the device, while enough to perhaps prolong life it would still require another source of energy to recharge.

2.) Prohibitively expensive to implement a working charging system would make the costs of production a little high for a mouse... although with the prices of some gaming mice nowadays it would probably be doable to at least bring costs down to some of the more expensive mice.

I'm stil searching for a silent mouse(no clicking sounds) if anyone find something like that in south africa could you please pm me? :D

You can at least get one with a silence scrollwheel. Genius makes one with the touch sensor instead of the wheel.

I still prefer something with a soft click. At least you know when the darn button is broken rather than sitting there bashing the mouse thinking the software isn't doing anything.

Why not just turn the mouse pad into a wireless charger? Oddly enough such things do exist. Have a look at some electric toothbrushes where are no physical contacts on the charging base. Could very well be one hell of a thick mouse pad though to house the coil. :D

the problem is, the mouses movements aren't very big, or fast. So you would need to up size the unit in the mouse, making it heavier, and bigger...

but their could be an alternative, maybe have a small motion charger device strapped to your ankle (or both), something that weighs about 200 grams (at this weight, even with intensive running you won't notice). that then charges up when you walk, jog, whatever. Then when you need to use a device (eg: mouse), you could just swap the charged battery from the ankle charger with the mouses dead battery, and there you go ;)
